Problems with gaming performance...

Recommended Posts

Here are some specs for my system:

3.0GHz

60 GB

512 MB

GeForceFX Go5200 (128 MB)

Now, my picture is usually very clear in regular applications and in games. My max resolution is 1440 x 900, and I can run Max Payne perfectly fine with my resolution set so high. When I try to play Mafia, I can't even run the game with anything above 800 x 600 (the game crashes), and in 800 x 600, the models don't look very sharp and the animation is very choppy. Now, anyone who has played Mafia knows that the graphics are amazing. One time, in the game, one of the people was just a walking jumnle of random colors and choppy lines, you couldn't even tell it was a person. Any help?

Really? Damn, because I have a laptop and an upgrade would be really hard, wouldn't it? I'm gonna get a new desktop in the fairly near future, and I may sell the laptop even though I just got it in August.

If the graphics card is not integrated, you can upgrade it. But I am not sure where to get a laptop video card. It would probably be better to just look for the drivers. You may have to turn down some graphics detail....

Try for new drivers, make sure your directX version is the latest and greatest (9b). The fx5200 is the "value" version and it really doesnt have alot of power. Its a DX9 card with the power of a DX7 one  Stupid nvidia marketing

Drivers

Normal drivers work for laptops? The old moble gf2 and gf4 ones didnt I dunno about the GFX ones

lol i was just playing mafia on my rig smooth as silk man 1024 rez:

get the latest mafia patch 1.1 <very important fixes frame rates

get the latest forceware

boom you are set and make sure every single driver in your system is uptodate: ever since i did that i have noticed a huge increase in fps the only game that ran choppy was deus ex 2 and kotor(highest settings - plus there is no option to turn off pixel shaders)

Why do you keep saying " I can run Max payne, but not mafia " ?

Those game are so FAR from eachother, when it comes to GFX ...

Max payne can run and almost any damn system. But not mafia

All the problems I have had with this game when it comes to performace have been down to soundcard settings. Experiment with EAX and hardware sound to see if it makes any difference.

Your card should be enough to run at 1024x768 without FSAA.
