j005u
ok so heres the deal: ive registered the domain j005u.net right. zoneedit.com is my dns. and now i would like to set up an email server. ive tried a few guides and stuff but i cant get them to work because of various problems. so is there anybody willing to walk me trough setting up an email server with pop3 and (secure)stmp support from scratch. default redhat 9.0 installation (o and qmail installed, well kinda, i think i did something terribly wrong. its not working now is it.. :p). id be very thankfull and if youd really help me to get this to work, id even probably be able to provide hosting.. i dont really need you to tell me line by line what to do, more as. install that. install that, then do that (and well if that is a little more complicated then running installation sctipts then, a little more detailed...) hope somebody is bored enough to help me :p j005u
markwolfe Veteran Posted December 30, 2003 Veteran Share Posted December 30, 2003 You said that you have tried, but it isn't working... What are you using? Sendmail? Also, may I recommend that you NOT do this? It sounds like you may not have the experience to manage and secure it properly, if you can't set it up. You will most CERTAINLY be hacked and compromized, and your server will be used to send spam as a zombie. Don't take that wrong. I say this from experience, because I set one up (wihout needing to ask for help) - and still had problems.and got compromized. :(
kemical
it seems you need to do some more research for yourself because like the previous post you will definately get intruded.

MG-Cloud
He said he is using qmail :) Good luck with that one though... mail servers are beasts to set up and qmail is apparently among the hardest (I don't know, I've never tried it). On the plus side though, qmail is a very good choice if you are concerned about security - once you have it up and running. Also, IMHO, people have to learn *somewhere*. You can't expect everyone to be experts when they first start off =) Although I've never set up qmail, I do have some friends who have. I was able to get in touch with one just now, and he recommended the following sites: http://cr.yp.to/qmail/faq.html http://www.lifewithqmail.org/lwq.html But then he had to leave ;) I'll see if I can get more info later - but I took a quick look at these and they look like pretty good starting points if you're willing to read the whole thing. Good luck !
