A Thread for Poor Chinese Children (pics)

your right in a sense but even though your not helping everyone in the country, your helping a child grow up with daily food, water and also to get an ewducation. i think its the least we could do since we are alot better off than these poor children

Don't understand why you posted this, it really just induces sadness, no reason for that. We've all seen enough of this on TV to know that there are people suffering.

That said, I do feel extremely sorry for these people, but "having it bad" is a very subjective phrase. We can all feel just as poorly as they do, whether or not we actually are, simply because in our own minds we have a preconcieved notion of how our lives should be, just as they do.

Every country has their slums and people in poverty. I could take you to some places here in England that are at least as bad as that, if not worse in some respects.

People shouldnt be shocked by these, theres a person in poverty within 10 miles of every one of us, I can pretty much guarantee that.

Its a shame, but its just the way things are

is there an organisation or charity of some sort we can donate money to for these children?

my family already sponsor an ethiopian child and we wouldnt mind helping another child or even family

Official site of Project Hope in China (mainland).

http://www.shanghai-window.com/shanghai/hope_project/

Project Hope of China is dedicated to help poor children in China to go to school.

But this site has no its English version. According to the introduction of this site, there are about 60 million people in poverty nationwide in China, the average income per year of them is less than 268 yuans (about 33 US$ per capita per year). So you can easily imagine how bad the compulsory education is for them).

I don't know the credit of this site, though the name of Project Hope is so famous in China. And, it is known that China mainland is marred by widespread graft and corruption. So I cannot guarantee that anyone's donation will be used properly for the poor children.

The site's email address: hope@shanghai-window.com, you might try to contact them before making next step.

if you think logically there are a few thing that would help china but its pretty awful

everyone cannot live in perfect harmony, also all countries have some poor and starving children...i think people should help their own country, you cannot help everyone at once. so start with the easiest

I feel like the Devil's advocate here.... Have you ever seen American innercity schools? They have it horrible, but so do we. It is all in context.

The poor in the US are much better off than most other countries. We have food, clothes, shelter, medicine and education all provided at no cost to them (costs taxpayers, though). These pictures show a level of poverty that I would bet does not exist at anywhere near the scale as in China. I have to ask, though, is China a poor nation? Why would it's governemt let this level of depravity occur? Very sad indeed.

because communism does not work, people cannot all be the same status, they naturally divide into classes of higher and lower status. the wealth is in the hands of few

Ironic isn't it? Communism is supposed to be in favor of the people and yet when communism has been implemented the high and low incomes have become even more polarized.

Technically, China is a form of socialism. Since they practice capitalism, the ability to "own" property (money) naturally divides people into classes. With true communism, everything is owned by the state and natural division doesn't occur. But I think the main reason why communism doesn't work is because there's nothing to stop corruption.

I used to live in a "communist" country, and nobody there was left without food/shelter untill it collapsed. Even people who had no education got jobs easily and were well payed; now they live on the streets. Now corruption is rampant, and even aid to people in poor areas is stolen and sold at the markets.
