IlliniPi
I know this may sound kinda weird but this is probably the easiest way to put in and take out your contacts (this works better if your right handed): . Using your right index finger put the contact in after taking your right middle finger and putting it under your eye, pulling down and pulling up with your left index finger. Thats usually how I get them in and out and works pretty well. I had the same experience with putting them in for the first time, took me about an hour.
Powerworks
Its been awhile since i've taken them out now.. and my eyes still feel bruised and watery.. is that normal? My eye's have bene through hell today.. i've been stretching out my eye lids... aem4162
i'm wearing my glasses all the time now because i got bored and tired of screwing with them everyday. i'll go back eventually, but right now i'm enjoying being able to go to bed w/o having to take them out first. i never liked the extd wear lenses. as for putting them in and removing them, i always used one hand for each eye - right hand-right eye, left hand-left eye - because using 2 hands bugged me. just pull my lower lid down with the middle finger and shove the lens in. i got bifocals last summer when i had my eyes checked and i've never been able to see as well as i can see now (Y) Its been awhile since i've taken them out now.. and my eyes still feel bruised and watery.. is that normal? you abused your eyes when you were trying to get the lenses out. you should leave them out for a day and let them rest. i know it's a pain, but your eyes are more important than convenience
IlliniPi
Its normal for your eyes to be hurting or just feel weird in general. You'll often feel like you have something in your eye, but its just your contact settling in. As long as your eyes don't get dry, you should be fine. dior_addict
haha, well, for me, if my nails are trimmed properly, i can use the full tips of my fingers to easily grab on to the contats and use the "pinch" technique. For me, thats the easiest way to remove them. As for puting them in, i usually stretch the botom part of my eye, and the top of my eye. then with the contact on the top of my index finger of the freehand, i pop them in, and adjust. :) if i wear my contacts for more than 12 hours a day, it hurts to have them in. so remove them asap. (for me anyways.) at first, it took me quite a while to get them on aswell. but you'll get use to them in about.. 1-2 weeks. and make sure yu don't sleep in them either. sometimes, i fell asleep in them, and the next morning.. ouch, it hurt to open my eye. and the contacts fell like stickers on your eyeball!!! its a pain to get off, but it feel sgood for some reason. haha. :D
ze-newie
I've had contacts for about 3 years now and I love them :D They were annoying to get used to in the beginning...you have to be sure to stick to the wearing schedule the doctor gives you for the first week or so, else your eyes won't adjust properly. Now I wear my contacts from the moment I wake up until I go to sleep...sometimes I sleep in them too and it's alright (but only because they're Acuvue 2 and you can actually sleep in them without problems). To take them out I use the "pinch" method someone described already. Keeping your nails short helps ;) It's quite annoying to put them in in the morning though because my eyes are barely open, but it becomes routine so you don't really notice it. Remember to wash your hands when you touch your eyes too. Good luck with your contacts, you'll get over the discomfort and love them soon enough :D

And it took me two hours to get them in, out.. then back in (at the doctors office) :p Might be "normal" if you didn't adhere to the proper build-up schedule necessary to get used to your contacts. Otherwise, if you were mucking with your eyes a lot with these things, your hands weren't clean and / or you didn't have clipped fingernails, you may very well have scratched your cornea. Such things often heal pretty quickly on their own (a day or two), but your eye(s) could feel maddeningly irritable for a couple days. You will get *much* more comfortable with your contacts over time. Do make sure you have totally clean hands, no significant fingernails, etc., when you go sticking stuff in your eyes. You also don't need to use any marked force to put things in or take them out -- be gentle. If you were playing with your eyes for several hours in general, yes, I'd expect some irritability as a result. You may well want to take a day or two off before trying to wear contacts again, as your eyes are probably a good bit traumatized from extensive initial manhandling. [Edit: You may find "moisturizing" drops helpful to your eyes, or can even probably drip saline solution into them, but I'd stay clear from stuff like Visine if your eyes are irritated like this. It is *not* what it's for.]

I had the same experience with putting them in for the first time, took me about an hour. Exactly what I do and I have been wearing contacts for about 18 years. If you think soft contacts suck, just be lucky you never had to use hard contacts. Imagine the lens from your glasses microsized to fit just over your iris (the color part). They hurt like a bitch and would have these halos of light around the edges when you looked at lights in the night time. To get those puppies out all you had to do was open your lids wider than the lens, pull back from the corner of your eye and blink. They would just pop right out. I love soft contacts and recommend the Accuvue 2 brand, very comfortable. You will get used to it and be able to pop them in and out in seconds flat. Takes me about 30 seconds from start to finish, both eyes. Also, to whoever is wearing the lenses to sleep and longer than the life cycle, you're just asking for some infections. Nothing is nastier than gooey eyes. If you are going to sleep in them, take them out and clean them at at least once a week and give your eyes a days rest and wear your glasses. Powerworks
My eyes still hurt a bit today.. but not near as bad.. I woke up with weird sleepy crust all around my eyes.. The doctor did not give me a schedule.. she just told me to practice taking them in and out.. and wear them as much as possible (taking them out at night though). Also.. I think I just bruised the fleshy parts under my eye lids and under the eye.. from pulling at it so much yesturday...
logan
Got contacts, can barely see the computer screen..having to adjust.. they correct nearsideness... but that makes close vision blurry.. Doctor says i'll get used to it... Soft contacts are a bitch to remove also... Spent three hours playing with them at the doctors office.. sounds like your lense dont fit right or something.. does it feel comfortable? my way of putting in my contacts is using my right middle finger to hold my lense, hold down the bottom of my eye with my right ring finger.. and just stick it in.. when i take it out i just hold on the bottom eye lid with my right middle finger... and use my pointer and thumb and sort of pinch them off... i told my doctor that i take it out that way, and he says its fine aslong as i dont scratch my eye or anything
Echilon
I have contacts but they make my eyes dry after a few hours, and my vision gets really blurred. And they make my eyes sore, they're too much hassle for me :p
giga Veteran Posted January 1, 2004 Veteran Share Posted January 1, 2004 Been using contacts for about 4 years now. They're the extended soft contacts. They were always a pain in the beginning. But it does become a routine after a few months. And I have to say, I love them. I just hate wearing my glasses. The thing is, I always take them out at night and clean them everyday too. Pinch method for taking them out, and the rindex finger and middle finger for putting them in.
cesardrgn
i like the idea of not having to wear glasses but i don't like the idea of having to stick my finger in my eye :sit makes me cringe. might just get my eyes lasered when i turn 18 :D Yeap, best way to go...
