Contacts

yeah, you're meant to start off by wearing them for short periods of time, like 2 hours or so, and then building up each day until you wear them all day.

oh yeah thats right. i forgot

this is how i do it and have always done it. it's a little unconventional, but it is easy.

to get them in:

-put contact on left index finger

-hold open bottom eyelid with left middle finger

-hold open top eyelid with right middle finger

-put contact in with left index finger

to take them out:

right eye:

-hold open top eyelid with right index finger

-hold open bottom eyelid with right thumb

-put left index finger on the contact and move the contact [to break tension]

-pinch the contact with left index finger and left thumb

left eye:

-hold open top eyelid with left index finger

-hold open bottom eyelid with left thumb

-put right index finger on the contact and move the contact [to break tension]

-pinch the contact with right index finger and right thumb

I lost a contact down the drain today ><

I was in a hurry, first time I didn't stop up the drain and it goes down it.. everytime I did stop up the drain it never hit it...

Went to the eye doctor for followup anyway.. she gave me another pair and I ordered a 6 month supply box... $80!!!

just be patient with them. the first week or so was horrible, it took forever to get them in and out, but now, i can do it in a matter of seconds, and i dont require the mirror like i used to. the good thing about mine is, i got the Daily ones, so i have a new pair every day, i just put them in in the morning then throw them in the trash at night, i didnt want to have to worry about putting them in those cases like everyone else does.

Those get expensive though don't they?

I looked at them but my ****ty insurance doesn't cover contacts.. NOT EVEN THE EYE EXAM!

i like the idea of not having to wear glasses but i don't like the idea of having to stick my finger in my eye :s

it makes me cringe.

might just get my eyes lasered when i turn 18 :D

actually, i think laser surgery is especially risky if you're young. doctors usually will not operate until the eyes have finished adjusting and are stable for a certain period of time, which is why i was confused and worried when my friend had hers done around the age of 18.

i don't mind wearing my glasses, though. it's easier to manage than having contacts.

One of my Aunt's friends got eye surgery, and she went blind... I don't want to take that sort of risk.

That sucks.. I have a best friend who is blind.. he's got a kidney problem and his doctor is afraid his new kidney is failing... its sad :(

Mine (after I get done with allt he appointments which I am..) will be $60 every 6 months.. but she said that if I take care of each pair of the monthlys they COULD last two months each.. so that would be a full year for $60 which isn't bad.

Damn my insurance plan.

Sort of interesting they're giving you monthlies. "Standard" now seems to be 2-week contacts, which you *can* probably wear quite easily for about a month without problems (I myself do, and could probably stretch even longer).

Go with something like the Acuvue 2 (which Armeck mentioned earlier amidst some other great info), and you can get two boxes of six contacts per eye (lasting 6 months total if you wear them for a month) for about $25.

Would be a bit curious exactly which contacts you were given. I've recently discovered / come to love Acuvue 2's myself, and believe they are the most widely prescribed contact overall. Lose one and it's worth about $2, which is quite nice compared to what contacts used to cost.

If you have a Costco (or something comparable) near you, do look into getting your contacts through them, as they do have probably the best prices available anywhere (as long as they carry what you use). Otherwise, I'd suggest 1800contacts.com.

just make sure they arent inside out right before you put them in, some lenses do it more than others. you can tell if its inside out by looking at it in the light, just look at the edge, youll be able to tell.. it hurts like hell if you accidentally put it in backwards

No it wasn't inside out.. I dont' think.. it itches alittle once its in.. but not hurt...

I think I have figured out how to put them in now.. but it'll probably still take me ten minutes next time =(

I guess its better than three hours like the first time.

Yea.. I put one in backwards yesturday, hurt like hell.. Today I put one in right side out.. it hurt for a minute (think some eye crud got in there since I just woke up).

But its much easier now, and I do enjoy wearing them.

Yes, I hate it when i get them in the wrong way.

This happend to me once, and it scared teh crap ou tta me. I put in my contacts, the right way i think, 5 min later, my eye starting hurting, so i decided to "recheck" to see if my contacts were properly placed.

When i put my finger where my contact was supposed be, i felt nothing but my eyeball. i'm all like.. WTF!!?

But my eye kept on hurting, so i knew something was there. Turned out, my contact had colded up from this shape: "O", to this shape "v", and got stuck in the corner of my eye, next to my nose....

THat crap hurts like a mother trucker.... haha, ok, end of story. :)

I worked in an opticians (well two different opticians) for 6 or 7 years as a lab tech, making normal specs, and I'll never ever put contact lenses in my eye. Yuk. Nope sireeey. I read far too many opthalmic publications over lunch with disgusting pictures of 'contacts that went wrong'. yukyukyukyukyukyuk :x

My doctor said those are caused by people misusing the contacts.. if you use them properly you have very little chance of something bad happening.. *knocks on wood*
