sdenike
What hardware is needed so that I can capture video onto my Powerbook from a camera that doesn't have Firewire?
aldo
I'm not sure, but you'd probably need something like a firewire video capture box, which would have ports for the analouge signal to go through (video, left and right audio).
Bling3k12
You could get one of these... http://www.formac.com/p_bin/?cid=solutions...erters_studiodv But it's quite expensive... $200... Or one of these... http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detai...735343?v=glance And it's also $200... Looks like that's how much it'll cost for a decent solution... I wouldn't go with USB at all, unless you want crappy video, these use FireWire, so it's guaranteed almost no loss of quality (since your camera doesn't have FireWire, I'd expect some loss.) sdenike
thanks, now to save up another 200.... gotta find an external tv tuner next ;)
Bling3k12
Well, if you want, there's the EyeTV from El Gato Software. It's a TV Tuner for the Mac and can act like a TiVo, and also capture video (like you requested). The only reason I left it out of the mix is that it uses USB. It's also $200. http://www.elgato.com/eyeTV/
sdenike
thanks for all the replies, Is there much of a difference in USB/Firewire capture? i mean i know that Firewire is faster and all but in quality wise can you notice the differnece?>
VGVL
I had to use a Formac Studio DV a couple of months ago, it's awesome.
Bling3k12
The only reason I suggest FireWire is because I know that it can provide a higher resolution and more FPS. Searched Google and it seems that the EyeTV using USB can only record at 320x240 and 29.97FPS. If you wanted to do video capture and such, edit this video, I wouldn't use the EyeTV. Formac also makes this: http://www.formac.com/p_bin/?cid=solutions...ters_studiodvtv Same thing as the video capture thing and it acts as a DVR. It looks like it has some pretty nifty software with it too. You should look at this tour to make a final decision: http://www.formac.com/p_bin/?cid=solutions...erters_tvr_tour It's $300.
