biko
When I was going to school the parking company (Impark) that controls the parking lot nailed me twice on not having my parking pass displayed, so I got two tickets. I never payed them and the Impark company forwarded they're claims to a collection agency called "City Collections". They sent mail and threats saying pay us. So i didnt pay because its just some big faceless corporation trying to screw a starving student out of 100 bucks. They call my house with automated messages saying call us. Kind of annoying but i dont really care. I know that these companys have no information on you other than what you give them. Since I signed up for a parking pass in the first place they have my information. Can these faceless companys actually do anything to affect your credit or is it all just scare tactics to try to get you to pay them? Can changing my license plate number sever the paper trail that they have me and free me of these hastles. Im looking for advice from other Canadians who know this system and the loop holes. MR_Candyman
ya, they can easily get the information and take you to court. They do state to ALWAYS have your valid parking permit displayed. You shoulda at least talked to them when it happened the first time...then you coulda probably avoided paying this...or at least have just faced the one ticket, which wouldn't have been worth much. Not paying a ticket is BAD. It can potentially give you a criminal record as it is illegal. You are showing right now that you're refusing to comply with them so expect to be taken to court in the near future. Failure to go there will be a criminal offence
Rudy
you really should pay the ticket though, you said it was $100, thats nothing, i paid for over $1000 of tickets for the past 3 years
mart3ll
Had a friend ignore them the same way... ended up in court, was found guilty of not paying the bills, and paid the fine as well as the legal bills for the court hearings. You may have left it too late.
voidX
WTF are all of you people talking about. this is a private company IMPARK. If you don't pay the fines they will just tow your car next time they ticket you.. or if they happen to notice your car even if you paid this time.. they will tow it. If it's taken to court it's a civil offence. Because he's been ignoring them (potentially ignoring a call to court), it can become a criminal offence. Non-payment of a ticket is considered theft because you were staying in their parking spot without issuing them money in return. In essence you STOLE the use of their parking spot for that day

No. Especially when they have to deal with hundreds of thousands of people.
voidX
he was asking about people with experience in this issue.. and i'm telling him what happens with impark. you will not goto court. lol
alpoinacan
If you have a valid parking pass for the period, mail them the invoice for the parking pass and have them overturn the tickets. You have ALREADY paid for the parking, the fact that you did not have your pass showing is irrelevant. If you can prove that you have paid, then they cannot charge you again through a ticket. Our school tried this crap and I had a couple of them ripped up when I didn't have my pass issued from the school, but had already paid for the parking. Tell'em to stuff it. KC
When I was living in Utah a bit diffrent then Canada but hey. I got lots of parking tickets from companies, never payed never heard anything about them. I would even park in the same parking lot and get tickets. Always in fear of my car being booted. aem4162
amongst other things, the school CAN keep you from registering for classes if you don't pay. go ahead and pay the fine - you were supposed to have the pass displayed and you didn't. In essence you STOLE the use of their parking spot for that day not paying a ticket is not a criminal offence. Like Biko says, he's a starving student and cannot afford to pay the ticket. If he is dodging the ticket intentionally though, thats a different thing, that IS a crime. Non-payment of any kind done non-intentionally is not a crime nor is it a criminal offence(In canada). So if this ends up going to court Biko has a more than valid argument as to why he hasnt payed. This happened to me at college, the first day of class i forgot to put my parking pass and got a $25 ticket, argued with the parking people and told them i wasnt going to pay. I parked there 2x a week for 6hrs and never had another ticket, nor did i get towed. If it were a gov't office i'd say pay it or take it to court and make out a payment plan for like $1 a month for 2yrs. If i were you, id call that company back (otherwise ur intentonally avoiding the ticket)and tell them u have no money, ur a student and u dont work(or tell them u work but it doesnt even cost living expenses) and that u will pay when u have $. tarzan007
Obviously the contract said you had to display the pass at all times when using the park. You did not display the pass these 2 times so broke the contract. Pay up and stop moaning.
