Would I buy one: maybe, just because I really like the packaging that the big ipod came in. And $100 isn't really a lot of money so why not. I'd much rather have a 60gb "normal" ipod, I want to start using 256k+ AAC rather than 160k mp3.

If I'm not mistaken, the rumors doing the rounds are $99 for 2GB and $149 for 4GB. I dont think a 5GB model is even rumored yet. Not sure how Apple is going to make it but it would be mighty sweet even if its $149 for 2GB and $199 for 4GB. :)

I'm not too interested in these lower end iPods. I plan to use my iPod for more than just music - possibly backing up my hard disk or keeping my photos on. So I need more than just 2 or 4 gigs. I'll be ordering the 20 gig model.

Seeing as Apple do make a sizable profit already from the iPod I think its feasible that they will be announcing something regarding the iPod at MacExpo

As for myself, I'll stick with my trusty old 10 gig version :p

"We do not comment on future products".

They have said nothing. There are a few interesting things to note that Apple PR (and steve himself) folks have said over the last year:

- 3.0 ghz G5s in a year (steve jobs, this summer)

http://www.apple.com/quicktime/qtv/wwdc03/

- We'd love to make a $100 iPod, but we just don't know how (steve, two months ago):

http://msnbc.msn.com/Default.aspx?id=3225735&p1=0

- There will be no new digital lifestyle devices this year (can't remember the source on that one - IIRC it was steve jobs, can't remember where he said it).
