Sharks

Recommended Posts

I had the pleasure of Diving with about 150 Hammerheads of the coast of Sharm el Sheikh, Egypt a couple of years back, got within about 10m of them.

The fact is more people are killed by Donkeys each year than sharks, that's why Im scared of Donkeys :woot:

Oh and if you think they dont come near the surface, check this out

I love sharks, but I have a fear of them as well.

i LOVE shark week on animal planet!
Myself as well. I really can't get enough of it but though fascinated, still frightened. I had the chance to swim with sharks at Typhoon Lagoon in Florida a few years back, but chickened out at the last minute.

Enjoy the pic rpm. :ninja:

Out of 450 species of sharks only about 30 are considered dangerous, a few others are considered potentially dangerous (just like seals are potentially dangerous because they're big and have teeth), however attacks on humans are VERY rare.

I live in the dominican republic and I have been scuba diving with nurse sharks, I got like 3 meters near some of them, sharks are only dangerous if you attack/provoke them, or if you interfere when they are eating. :p

It is more probable that you die from a lightning then from a shark attack...

On this site are some pictures where you see a guy diving with great whites in south africa, those pics are not edited, I know the guy personally (Ralf Kiefner), so trust me, sharks are not as bad as they seem!!! :rolleyes:

NOTE: if you press the link, go to "Sharks" and press on the description of each pic... :ninja:

@-->i like chips

No, we aren't on their diet plan...

But It can happen that a big shark attaks you if you are bleeding very bad or moving like crazy(it looks for them like if you are wounded = easy prey for them)

Specially tiger sharks and big whites are know for doing that...and for attaking surfers(they look like seals from under the water, and seals are the fav food of great whites...)

sharks are pretty scary, i think it's a mental thing. i have no problems swimming in lake michigan, where the biggest thing is like a couple foot long salmon.

when i go to the pacific, i'm pretty scared to walk in. i'm gonna need to get over that if i'm ever gonna learn how to surf...

I think that the only reason they really try to bite you is because you look like food exp on a surfboard, etc.. Isn't it true or something that almost everytime a shark bites a human he doesn't come back for a 2nd realizing the mistakes he's been because I've also never heard of a shark eating like an entire human but rather just biting his leg off then going away.. Most people die of blood loss I'd scream till I die I gurantee you that much.

Sharks are safer than driving your car..

Soooo true there is nothing to fear from a shark. :yes: Se the thing is if you look like food or smell like food you become the food. So here is what you do:

1. dont look like food most surfers attacked by a shark are on their board with their arms and legs sticking off. The shark is dumb and can NOT tell that you are not a turtle unless he attacks you.

2. open cuts etc. are not good either you smell like food

3. swiming / diving with a shark try not to **** it off and not look like your a threat to its well being

4. use common sence. It goes a LONG way.

I read/ heard somewere a while back that your chances of being attacked by a shark (in general) are less than being attacked by a cow. so you are more likely to have a cow attack you than be attacked by a shark. With those odds I hope to someday go diving alongside a shark :happy:

best bet is to dive down and stare and shark down.

Dive down and stare and shark down?? :wacko:

What exactly is that supposed to mean??

Dive down to where?? if you are in the middle of the ocean where the water can be 8.000 meters deep...how the f**k am I gonna swim down, even If I could, the sharks not gonna wait for me to stare at him...

@-->divertom15

I don't think more than 20 people in human history got killed by cow-attaks......or did I miss something big? ;)

Watch out, the killer cow's are coming!!!! :ninja:

cos like theres no way anyone can out swim a shark so u might have a bigger chance of survival when u fight with the shark. swim under water and poke its eyes and gills. oh yea i also heard that shark and other predator can sense fear so if u are afraid u will freeze and u are doomed.

scare the beastie by showing it the list of 'girlfriends' that alex has talked about here on neowin. or show it the endless pix of alex's bike and truck. drive it crazy by reading it the post where alex asked where the outside faucet turns on in his house.
