+BudMan MVC Posted December 31, 2003 MVC Share Posted December 31, 2003 you can ALWAYS get the latest kernel source from - http://www.kernel.org If your looking for redhat rpms - you can find those here, http://people.redhat.com/arjanv/2.6/RPMS.kernel/ (keep in mind - these are NOT official releases) He has most everything you would need to install from rpm though. You will need to update some other stuff - to get the 2.6 to work, ie LVM, device mapper, mkinitd, etc... If you new to installing a kernel from source, you in for some FUN. If moving to 2.6 - this might come in handy, ran across this the other day http://thomer.com/linux/migrate-to-2.6.html There are a lot of guides / how-to in compiling your kernel (search for them) - but be prepared for some not so common issues with a move from 2.4 to 2.6. But remember to have fun!

Tek
You were just given a link to a guide, and told to look on slashdot. The best way to do it is to learn for yourself, instead of having someone to do everything for you.

MG-Cloud
quit bitching @ people who are new and trying to learn it. Instead, provide some useful information! They gave him a: Step by step tutorial Link to full kernel source Link to RPMs Bit of Redhat specific information How is that not useful information? Anyways, Sawyer12 - you can at least get started with the info that they gave you. That kerneltrap.org article is excellent, especially because it is in a step by step format with pictures. Check out all the links that were posted here, try it out for yourself, and if you're having any problems understanding things, or any errors, you can come back for help. Good luck! :)

Instead, provide some useful information! how about you quit spamming and give some useful info. see ... I am giving some more info .... http://people.redhat.com/arjanv/2.5/RPMS.kernel/ get 2.6 kernel rpm for redhat from there.
markwolfe Veteran Posted December 31, 2003 Veteran Share Posted December 31, 2003 I think that pointing to the information is a good start. If Sawyer12 runs into trouble, he can post his problem here, and 9 out of 10 of us will continue to help with specific problems. Right now, it looks like he was asking for information to prepare on upgrading his kernel. He may read it and decide against it. He may decide to try it. Either way, I think the response so far has been appropriate.

radixvir
whoa before you try to update redhat to 2.6 let me tell you you are in a world of problems. id wait until core2 ships before you use the 2.6 kernel with redhat. i tried it with redhat and it breaks a ton of packages with have dependencies on 2.4. then i finally gave up and went with gentoo
