jerry
I've read that the battery does not fit perfectly in the iBook G4. Does anybody have a pic on this ? Thanks J

plasticparadox
Perfectionists have whined about the battery not appearing flush with the iBook. Honestly, it's fine. There's maybe a millimeter of difference. It's nothing to be worried about; the battery is locked in, so it's not like there's a chance of it coming out. jerry
Thanks for reassuring me. But wouldnt the slight difference result in an imperfect balance when its on the table ?

jerry
So any 12" iBook G4 owners have a picture of their beast ? (Not the battery compartment but a general front view) BTW, I'm getting my iBook around 5-7 Jan. Thanks

plasticparadox
 :woot: looks great. I cant wait 7 more days ... It'll come sooner than later... I passed the time re-reading the spec sheet on apple.com, and downloading cool Mac software onto CDs (from my Windows computer).
jerry
well, I'm at the stage of re-reading the spec sheet again & again. Have to start looking for software. BTW, noticed your specs in your sig. Did you bump up the RAM yourself or got it done from Apple ? I'm planning to do it myself but not sure if I need any special tools for it.
the evn show
There is this one special tool you'll need: I think it's called a "Screw-driver" whatever the heck that is. seriously though upgrading ram is a simple task.

The only benefit to doing it yourself is you save a couple bucks. Not worth the hassle of dealing with another company.

The only thing that I do not like in getting Apple to do the upgrade is they are offering memory at twice the cost I can get locally. Speaking of which does it void the warranty if I do the upgrade myself ?

Speaking of which does it void the warranty if I do the upgrade myself ? In my case, Apple Japan was offering cheap memory upgrades with educational purchases. I got mine done for about $10. But even without the discount, I probably would have had them do it. And no, it won't void your warranty. It's a user-replacable part. However, should you happen to slip with the screwdriver and take out your Airport card, well.. [edit] I was just reviewing my profile after you mentioned my sig... I think it's time for a new avatar. After all, Bonzi Buddy doesn't exist on Mac...
jerry
yeah, I'll get a new avatar soon with a sig. You dont need to guess what its going to be. :)

Timan Veteran Posted January 20, 2004 Veteran Share Posted January 20, 2004 Damn you know what I thought it was just my iBook, but the battery does infact look like its not put on correctly, the leftside (by trackpad) is kinda off by a tad. Gets on my nerves because I must have it perfect or ACK! But least I know its not just me. Thought I had a fecked up iBook.
jerry
Another question thats bogging me: I've read that Li-Ion batteries last on average for about 1,000 recharge cycles. So when I'd be using the iBook on my desk, should the battery be removed ? In that case there will be a loss of time and some programs like iCal screw up. What is the best recommended method for preserving or maintaining good battery life ? Thanks J
