Laughing-Man
Lol, I do not know how many of you read the 1up.com site, but this article was pretty funny especially with the comments at the bottom: Link. I still cannot believe the game is in production. I thought by now they would have thrown away the game in the garbage and given up without telling anyone. Duke Nukem Forever In 2005?By David Smith 12/18/2003 3D Realms' long-delayed first-person shooter Duke Nukem Forever may not see release until 2005, Take-Two Interactive CEO Jeffrey Lapin noted during Take-Two's investor conference call earlier today. The game's official release date remains "when it's done," but in response to a question about the status of the project, Lapin stated that its developers "expect the game to be completed sometime at the end of 2004 or the beginning of 2005." Duke Nukem Forever has of course become synonymous with chronic delays since not long after its 1997 debut. Since its acquisition by the publishing imprint now known as Gathering (formerly Gathering of Developers, or G.O.D.), the game has crept all the way from a tentative late 2001 release date. During another Take-Two conference call from earlier this year, Lapin noted that the publisher has written Duke Nukem Forever out of its financial expectations entirely, and simply hopes that 3D Realms will one day finish the game. To offer some perspective on the game's ever-lengthening development cycle, if Duke Nukem Forever does arrive in that late '04/early '05 time frame, it will have spent more time in development than... ...all three films in the Lord of the Rings trilogy. ...seven Final Fantasy RPGs (VII, VIII, IX, X, X-2, XI, XII). ...the term in office allowed any president of the United States. As new Duke Nukem Forever news arises with each passing Take-Two fiscal quarter, we'll update accordingly. Hopefully we'll even be able to provide more quotes like: Scott Miller, 1997: "We're confident that DNF will be one of the greatest, if not the greatest game of 1998. And this confidence is not misplaced." Joe Siegler, 1999: "Trust us, Duke Nukem Forever will rock when it comes out next year." George Broussard, 2001: "If DNF is not out in 2001, something's very wrong." George Broussard, 2003: "Take Two needs to STFU imo."

OPaul
So it's not even the publishers fault the game isn't out yet. How on earth can 3DRealms still not have finished the game, that's insane.

Ayepecks
No wonder why its call Duke Nukem "Forever" :) *wonders how many times that's been used* I think they need to rename the game.
H|LLT0P
LOL, it's funny how everyone hates this game, but when the slightest inkling of news slips out everybody goes crazy. Take Two or 3D Realms or GOD games or whoever the hell owns the rights now, needs to just cut their losses and let the game DIE!!. Then they can focus on more important games like DUKE NUKEM FOREVER 2............J/K :p

Chode
I theorise that this is exactly the position 3D Realms wanted to be in. They've formed a Legend A joke told in sly remarks regarding the competency of 3D Realms marketting A househould name!!!!! When (if?) 3D Realms does bring it out, then almost every gamer will know what Duke Nukem Forever is. "It's that game that's taken forever to come out". (Duke Nukem Whenever....lol) That's great advertising, and if they do put out a great product then they've got an absolute hit in their hands. I remember Freelancer was like this, except it was more of a cult following, and the final product didn't back up it's original claims to the degree it could have. [ timko ]
Has it been in constant development all this time? If so, think of the amount of money spent on that part just alone for all the coders and other staff! They better damn well hope it's gonna be a big success otherwise they won't be able to make back the money!

Prophecy
3d realms is run by bunch of immature adults. If you visit their forums you cant ask them when it will be out or about anything "NEW" about the game. They will just lock your thread. You can only comment and kiss their arse about screenshots that are outdated because they were taken in 2001. Here we are in 2004. 3D realms is easily the laughing stock of the gaming industry for the shear fact that it will never be completed and when it truley is done.. Do you think they will make all the money back they keep losing in R&D and time? They have scrapped the project at least 3 known times.. Switched the engine a few times. That cost them alot of money. By the time the game is released the majority of consumers wont remember their previous duke nukem title. Only thing keeping them afloat is joint partnership with makers of MaxPayne etc etc.. They have lost my money

Your threads got locked coz you broke forum rules, so quit whinging. The NDP Group list the following as the best selling PC games for November 1 The Sims: Makin' Magic Expansion Pack - Electronic Arts $31 2 Call Of Duty - Activision $45 3 Final Fantasy XI - Square Enix USA $49 4 The Sims Double Deluxe - Electronic Arts $40 5 MS Zoo Tycoon: Complete Collection - Microsoft $29 6 Star Wars: Knights Of The Old Republic - LucasArts $47 7 Halo: Combat Evolved - Microsoft $45 8 Finding Nemo - THQ Inc $16 9 Max Payne 2: Fall Of Max Payne - Take 2 Interactive/Rockstar $45 10 MS Age Of Mythology - Microsoft $34 Hmmm, you say they are the laughing stock of the gaming industry, yet there they are in the top 10 selling list. This shows two things, 1) They are obviously selling software 2) You, my friend, or not an esteem representative of the gaming community at large. Who is to say they are losing money? If it was true, then they'd have been losing money since around 1998. Yet they still seem to have financial backing and are no way in risk of going defunct. (following your logic, why are publishers still financially backing the project? Answer that one!) And as for consumers forgetting the previous title, whoop de do. I've never played the original side scrolling platform version of Duke Nukem, yet I still purchased and enjoyed Duke Nukem 3D. Sounds to me like they never had your money to begin with (*cough*piracy*cough*) Remember Freelancer, I followed that project since '98. Only came out last year, despite that at the beginning of development their engine would run crisply on a Pentium 200. Of course technology increases as time goes on, it's called cuting edge development.

I see Take2/Rockstar but I don't see 3D Realms which is what it's all about. Take2/Rockstar made it to the toplist because of developers like Remedy and of course their own GTA games. MegaManXcalibur
You know Duke Nukem 3D is still one of my favorite games of all time.... I was expecting by now that Duke Nukem Forever would have been released and I'd of had a new great game. But after many years (many many many years) I have finally realized it will probably never get done. I do believe this game will have the record for the longest development time for any game (maybe their trying to get into the Guiness Book of World Record  ). The big problem will be when it is released nobody is going to remeber the previous game, heck a lot of people have already forgotten it.

machima
The only reason it's taken so long is because 3D-Realms has always been about making the game as good as they can. They started with the Quake 2 engine, then switched to Unreal, then switched to Unreal Warfare. For all we know they could have switched to the Source engine or something like that and not said anything. And for every engine switch they would have to up all the rest of the graphics. True, it's taken way too long. But I know this game will deliver because simply, 3D-Realms makes games that YOU WANT TO PLAY. If anyone can remember Duke3D and Shadow Warrior, you'll know that these are gaming classics and are games that are still fun to play nowadays. So give up with the comments about the game, most of these people commenting probably havent even played a Duke game before.
