SkaterAustin
Okay i just got a new computer upgrade.. Amd 64 3000+, gigabyte k8n pro, 512mb pc3200+ ram and my video card is a ati radeon 9000 pro 128 that ive had for awhile.. what i think is slowing the game is that my video card isn't direct x 9 compatable.. ive formated my hard drive done everything i could... SO what im thinkin i need a new video card.. how well does a ati radeon 9600 pro 128 xt play halo? good  or bad

LordHatrus
My computer, which has P3 1GHz and ATI Radeon 9000 PCI runs Halo fine in 640x480:argh: :trout: :hit_head_on_desk:what i think is slowing the game is that my video card isn't direct x 9 compatable i have a 9600 pro, not sure about the xt thing, but it plays fine with halo. i got an AMD 2000 with 768Ram and a 9600 Pro and it runs great at 1024x768 my 128M Ti4200 played Halo just fine... the 9600 does it the same but slightly better... Since the 9600 IS a card that supports DX9 commands, and these people have it running good, then my guess is you're right.
KeR
ok all the people who replied that they have a nVIDIA card and say the games runs great.....well the reason why the game runs good is because the cards are not DirectX 9 compatible and the game runs with reduced graphics. So you are getting good FPS but it's not looking nice. :D Back to the real question, I have a 9600Pro and the game runs great if you do get the TX I am sure it will be even better. LordHatrus
whatya mean nVidia's dont have DX9 hard command support??! I do believe cards in the GeForce FX line do.
KeR
whatya mean nVidia's dont have DX9 hard command support??!I do believe cards in the GeForce FX line do. nope, even they don't have true DirectX9 support.
Digitalis
add -useff or -use11 to the halo shortcut target. reason for this is halo runs pixel shader 2.0 (direct x 9) by default.. which the radeon 9k doesnt support, so changing it to -useff or -use11 will lower the pixel shader to 1.1 which is dx8
LordHatrus
really... the GeForceFX line doesn't have dx9 calls.... i thought they did..... Ah well, I dont own a Nvidia, well actually.... I have a really old one sitting here somewhere.... Still..... the nvidias have pixel shader 2.0 (ha, I KNOW they do this time) and don't have true DX9 support... weird..... even the 5950 ultra, or whatevers on top of the nvidia line now?!?! wierd........ OptiPlex
The Xbox Halo uses Pixel Shader 1.4 or something like that, I recommend that you use -use11 switch for your Radeon 9000 PRO. -useff is just utter crappy looking POS. This is what I use: "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Halo\halo.exe" -novideo -nojoystick -use11 -console -screenshot -exec halo.cfg -novideo = no M$ video, gearbox video, bungie video at startup -nojoystick = I don't use joystick so I disabled it -use11 = use pixel shader 1.1 -console = enable console (~) -screenshot = Print screen automatically saves pictures into a folder -exec halo.cfg = used to disable mouse acceleration
BananaMan
nope, even they don't have true DirectX9 support. Not quite. Geforce FX has DX9 support, but flaky compliance with a lot of DX9 standards.
Fugi
i use a 9600 pro and it only gets slow when i walk into heavy fire and to gets all choppy.

Nova_rock
my geforce 3 isn't made for direct x 9, but halo runs like a dream on it  thats cuz its not doing dx9 on in man, its doing dx 7 prolly with out pixel shaders or PS 1.1 you dont have the hardware to even try to get it to run on the badly implimented PS 2 and dx9 stuff that they added on for the PC version, congrats how are these threads still starting? search! set it to PS 1.1 or 1.4 and lower your gfx settings! comps arnt consols! new games wont automatically look better AND run better. matt74441
My computer runs Halo fine, but Halo will only run with the Catalyst 3.6 drivers. So once HL2 comes out, no more Halo.
