XBOX a progressive scan dvd player?

Umm, don't know what you guys are talking about, but Xbox does support progressive scan DVD playback... M$ just disabled it :p. To get it to work, you MUST have a mod chip installed and run a seperate DVD application (such as dvdx2) or a hacked version of the original dashboard, as it is another "application" that plays DVDs. Then you have to patch your choice with a program (found at xbox-scene.com under software/tools section) or Hex edit some values - check out xbox-scene.com forums for tutorials. Then you will have a progressive scan DVD player :)

And, BTW, only the brand new PS2 systems support progressive scan in DVDs. The older models (as in probably anything made before a couple of months ago) do not support it.

The XBOX doesn't fo the progressive-scanning in that case - the app does. It's just that the XBOX supports progressive-scan output.

just lookin for a way not to go out and spend more money, oh well it's all good

You can get an outstanding progressive scan player, the Panasonic S55, for as little as 100 dollars right now. Check out the reviews, one of the best progressive players out there and with DVD-audio support no less. :D
