Graphic Battles

I've been checking out the battles at Graphic Forum. There's some amazing stuff. I was wondering if anyone here on Neowin would like to do a similar thing. The people over at Graphic Forums are just insanely talented. I think with the talent we have here, we could come up with some equally killer stuff. Post here with your interest.

@Simply: It may sound a long time to create a graphic per se, but not everyone is always available at three days notice. I know I'm not.

yep people don't have all the time to do this and with 3 day's we may only get a few entry's,

with 3 weeks we can get more entry's and people have more time to think of idea's

what if someone is going to use a 3d app, can you model a big scene or create textures for the scene in a few day's.

On a practical level, the very lowest I could go is ten days. Other than that, I'm easy. But I'll be happy to go along with whatever Mod says. I can always not enter if I don't have the time.

i think it would be a good idea as people like me who find graphics a way to escape i think it would be good for people to show there creativity

It's great to see so many people excited about this. I wasn't sure if anyone would be interested.

Usually what they do for rules over at the other forum is set up a size, layer use minumum, and maybe a few other things. So you might agree to make the battle in 400 x 600, use at least 1 previous layer and that layer must be at least 50% visible... You can add more or less if you like. Some of them with decide on a certain number of rounds or a time limit for replys as well.

I've seen other variations too. There's one where you do a mural. What you do is come up with a theme and then each person has to follow that theme. You also have to create some kind of overlap or transition of at least a certain amount. So you could say that each section will be 500 x 300, and that there must be a 100 pixel overlap. So each person who adds on has to use at least 100 pixels on the edge of the previous entry. Then you do some sort of fade or blur or something to combine them. That way they can be combined into one long image.

One thing they don't seem to do is judge the battles. There's no winners, it's all just for fun and for the sake of creating art. It's also a great way to improve your graphic art skills. If you want to see some other awesome completed battles, check out Angry Blue's gallery of battles.

how does this sound

the game has a subject and members who are willing to play this game will need to visualize the subject in there own way.

members will have 2 weeks time to enter there final creation, that creation can be made with any 2d/3d software.

Some software,

- Photoshop

- Illustrator

- Freehand

- Fireworks

- Paint shop pro

- 3d studio max

- Cinema 4D

- Maya

Etc.

All contesters which entered a final creation can be the winner, the winner will be chosen by 3 mod?s.

They will be valued at:

- creativity

- overall style

- the visualization of the subject

That winner will choose the next subject.
