mahiles
What specs are people running NFSU with? I'm ever so slightly annoyed that my Athlon XP 2600+, 512Mb RAM with a Radeon 9600 Pro doesn't seem to work very well. On other games such as C&C Generals Zero Hour I can run in 1024X768 (or even higher but my monitor doesn't like much higher) with high detail on everything and it still runs as smooth as it possibly could. But oh no NFSU just refuses. I've never ever had a game that has annoyed me so much as this one. I set it on 800X600 with medium quality set (or low if medium isnt on some options) and it is still terribly jerky. Anyway rant over I just want to know what it really needs? Considering the min spec is listed as a 700 Mhz, 256Mb RAM etc..

[ timko ]
Try turning off your Vsync in the D3D section of the Catalyst drivers. (and whilst you're there, try setting the AA to Application Preference)

mahiles
Try turning off your Vsync in the D3D section of the Catalyst drivers. (and whilst you're there, try setting the AA to Application Preference) Did that and it completely supercharged it!! What does this VSync do exactly and are there any bad effects of turning it off? (AA was already on application preference)..

mahiles
Ok I've read about vsync so what is everyones refresh rate? Just wondering.. Mine was at 60 (I haven't changed it since I installed windows) I put it up to 75 and some of the pausing has gone. I'd prefer not to turn off vsync because it said it has some bad effects on some games..
[ timko ]
I got my refresh rate at 85hz. For me, setting to 60hz really starts to strain my eyes after a half an hour or so. Even though the flickering is not visibly noticeable, it still strains the eyes. A lot of people experience this and as such bump up the refresh to at least 85hz. blobblob
It should run fine. On my Athlon XP 1800+, Geforce3 ti500 and 256mb pc2100 ram I can run it at 1280X960 with all of the details on high. On 1600X1200 it also runs fine but when there's excessive tyre smoke it goes a little slow and I can't really notice the increase in quality.
