My AMR modem does not work in Linux so i am using a 33.6K Serial Modem  Untill i can be sure i am going to get linux to work then i will buy a 56K modem. Now my modem dail then try to login then disconnects. I have run up my ISP and they say "Yes, you can dial up to ***** via Linux but we can't support you" then said "From our logs your modem is dropping out 1/2 way throught a handshake (Dialing)" so here is a modem query screen shot can any one help please?
matt74441
I know that this is of no help to you, but I'm so glad that I have DSL and don't have to deal with modems in Linux.

markwolfe Veteran Posted January 3, 2004 Veteran Share Posted January 3, 2004 Is this a "WinModem" that is failing? Or the external "real" modem? If it is the external modem, you might have a bad modem, or phone line problems. The modem negotiation occurs without regards to the computer's OS... Tek
There's 2 (main) kinds of authentication protocols, PAP (Password Authentication Protocol) and CHAP (Challenge Handshake Authentication Protocol). The default I think is PAP, maybe you should try changing it to CHAP. If you're using the wrong protocol, it would explain why you drop out half way through. patch-rustem
If you click on the log button whilst it's trying to connect you'll get the Login Script Debug Window. This could provide some clues.
