misecia
I'm getting a G4 Cube tomorrow and I was wondering if I can install the copy of Panther I got with my iBook on my new machine. I read somewhere that there was a 3 machine license with Panther...??

misecia
Well at least there's no stupid sign-ups or activation with Apple products :)
DjmUK
Try it and find out, there's no reason why it shouldn't work - as long as you have the full CD version, you'll be alright. * misecia - there's no activations? I didn't know that, does this mean that when I get my iMac in a couple of months that I won't need to type out a long serial number? Also, no sign-ups - so if I wanted to register then I can't? kairon
There is no serial to enter, only your registration information when you first boot up after installing OS X.
wtmcgee
legally you cannot install panther on more than one machine, though.
mm3h
its cheaper than windows IMO  pitty it wont work on windows if only apple developed a PC Version everyone would go away from windows well all the non n00bish people
Bling3k12
There is no serial to enter, only your registration information when you first boot up after installing OS X. And if you're really paranoid, you can even skip that by hitting Command (Apple Key)+Q during first bootup to skip registration.
SPeedY_B
And if you're really paranoid, you can even skip that by hitting Command (Apple Key)+Q during first bootup to skip registration. But then you're taunted by the evil "send registration" shortcut, constantly nagging, eating away at your conscience.... unless you bin it of course :p :D

As far as this thread, Dazzla's right. The only thing stopping you is your conscience.
DjmUK
Or if your conscience is bugging you, then go get the 5-License version (even though you've already bought it...uh-oh, but for future reference). Family Pack 5-License = ?159 (?229), it's only ?60 (?80) extra. Mind you, what's confusing me is that this 5-L version doesn't state that it comes with PanQ:Q: Is it just a box with "License Documents", or is it "Panther + License Documents". P.S. Good news about the no-serial installation and optional registr:)ion :)

How about Microsoft ports Windows XP to the PowerPC platform first?

Southern Patriot
Uh, how about no?What a waste of money that would be. How about Microsoft ports Windows XP to the PowerPC platform first? Actually, that shouldn't be all that hard, since Windows 2000 was originally going to be available for PPC (like Windows NT 4 was), but support for non-x86 platforms was dropped after Beta 3 (IIRC). On the other hand, it would probably be just as easy for Apple to port OS X to x86 platforms since Darwin is available for x86, Rhapsody was available for x86 up to Developer Release 2, and it has been long rumored that Apple keeps an up-to-date x86 port of OS X on some machines in-house. the evn show
Apple bills itself as a hardware company, the majority of her profits comes from the sale of Macintosh systems. OS X exists to sell that hardware. If apple develops Mac OS for x86 systems (I assume you mean non-apple x86 systems because otherwise you're not any better off) and sells it to the masses for a pathetic $129/copy rather than making $1000+/machine selling dual processor powermacs. But how does that sell Apple more hardware? And why would you buy mac os for x86 when EVERY mac os application ever written would need to be re-written/recompiled? Having Apple port OS X to x86 hardware is just a fantasy x86 users have of getting "wealthy elietist mac users" to pay for R&D on a new OS for them. No thanks. Once again I propose a definitive "Mac OS on non-Apple platforms FAQ".
