Liquorix Kernel - the better distro kernel

anyone has longer experience with the liquorix kernel? according to http://liquorix.net/#features it offers quite some optimization over the default kernel. the online reviews i read so far are either positive (clear improvement) or saying that there is no difference to the default kernel, but it works just as well. i finished compiling a few hours ago and so far everything works fine, somehow it feels a bit faster but that can also be because of the fresh booted system. dunno yet if i should switch from cfq to bfq scheduler.

 

so share your experiences there!

guys i face a strange problem with this kernel currently.

 

when i installed it first, it was 4.3.3.5. installation went fine and a bit later on i upgraded to 4.3.3.7 which went fine as well and replaced the first kernel. now i try to update to the latest 4.3.3.8. compilation and installation runs as fine as ever, i update grub as i always did, however when rebooting the liquorix kernel it only boots into 4.3.3.7....  i have no idea whats wrong any ideas what i could try?

You got symlinks, dkms and init stuff all updated correctly with the new one right? And it was my understanding that minor-numbered Kernel versions like that were development anyway. We aren't supposed to be using ones with the point numbering (4.3.3.8 and so on) because they're marked as "fluid" and not feature-complete (or in bug-check/bug-fix).

 

I'd stick to the 4.3.3.7 and count my blessings that it works.  Those Kernels will sautee your cat (and your wife's poodle) from high orbit when you only meant to watch cat and poodle videos on YouTube. Please be cautious with those Kernels.

that's the only way to use the liquorix kernel, it always has numbered versions and it went fine the first 2 times and i have no idea why it does not go fine this time  also i have no idea what you mean with the rest. potential security risks? oh well, the liquorix kernel is years old and i havent found any single proof that its riskier than others, also used lots of custom kernels on my android devices without any problem. 

i just would like to read a possible solution :-/

I wasn't aware of the Liquorix Kernel Tree until you posted about it. What is special about it, just some optimizations (scheduler, old drivers removed, options for speed and bloat removal, etc)? I'm not familiar with their versioning system either, so forgive my ignorance about how they do things. I'm only aware of how the mainline Kernel versioning works.

yep mostly internal optimizations and uses a differen scheduler as well plus offers a 4th I/O scheduler (afaik zenwalk linux and open mandriva using the same)

Okay, I'm already reading on the Liquorix Forums that it's not supported on "frozen pool" distros such as Ubuntu 14.04/Mint 17.x. I'll have to take a pass on this one, sadly.  Bummer.

the problem i faced has solved itself kind of. a new version was released and i first completely removed the current one before upgrading. now everything runs fine again.
