I haven't gotten a chance to watch the full 30 min session (and I'm not sure I'll be able to drag myself through it) but according to the summary on neogaf here:

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1189622

The breakout box doesn't touch the signal between the PS4 and the PSVR, just takes it post and warps it for TV. The only thing it feeds to the PSVR is the 3D audio which it *does* process. No PS4 GPU/CPU cycles spent on Audio.

Hopefully this puts the rest the misinformation about the box having an external GPU because of the PS4 is too "weak" to do VR. (I've even seen people guessing the box has a Polaris based GPU in it which is insane!)

The PS4 is doing ALL of the graphics processing (including the now mandatory "reprojection") for the headset.  There IS graphics processing being done on the box but it's ONLY to convert the VR-ready graphics to something suitable for the TV output, NOT the headset.  The external box IS doing 3D AUDIO processing for the headset though.

Don't worry some people on Neowin will carry on saying its some sort of GPU or power box.

Ok, I got a chance to watch the video.  If anyone doesn't want to plow through the whole thing but is interested in where he states what the break-out box does and doesn't do it starts at the 11:42 mark and just runs until about 13:08.  So that part is just about a minute and a half if that's all you care about.

More expensive than the console itself and given Sony's peripheral support track record: DOA!

For the price it doesn't even include the Move controllers or the PS Camera.

Even if I still had my PS4, I'd rather buy OSVR at $299.

Decent price indeed! UK online retailers should bring it down a little.

On a related note, one of the very few good move titles, Tumble, is coming to VR - http://blog.us.playstation.com/2016/03/15/tumble-vr-revealed-for-playstation-vr/

Shouldn't there be a dumpster behind Gamestop with a ton of cameras right now? Go quick before retailers have a reason to sell them again.

Amazon UK pre-orders are up, no deposit needed - http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sony-PlayStation-VR/dp/B00I9WWBCQ/ref=tsm_1_tw_uk_xldsrwjc?linkId=22321447

All I need is the camera, have two dusty Move controllers.

Pre-orders seem to be sold out for now.

Sony claims it is selling each unit for a profit

Quote

"The same goes for the price point. It wasn't predicated on anyone else's prices. Obviously we need to make money on the unit, but we've been in the consumer electronics business for a long time, so our ability to source great, high quality parts is a big part of it."

Then, apparently after being asked directly whether each PSVR unit sells at a profit, Boyes confirmed this was the case.

"Every device we've sold since PlayStation 4 has been in the black," he added.

I'm going to get this... it's about $100 more than I was hoping (about what I thought it would cost WITH the camera and a pack-in game) but considering Oculus and HTC both came in at about $200 more than I was expecting that's not too bad.  I also already have the PS4 and camera and I don't have a PC up to the specs required for the Rift.

October though is too late for me this year.  By then I'll be thinking about the holidays so I'll likely ask for it for Christmas and then buy it early next year if I don't get it.  By then they should be in stock and more games should be out as well.

Why isn't the camera supplied when it's specifically needed for it to work? I wouldn't think that many people at all have a PS camera to not include it. Is move required or only by some games?

Everyone I know with a PS4 has the camera already, not that that's scientific all.  There were also shortages for a while in the early days as noted here:

PS4 Camera Severely Supply Constrained

Now that's from way back in May of 2014 but if the attach rate has stayed roughly the same at about 15% (which was when it was supply limited and Sony was asking for patience to get them on the shelves) then Sony is likely approaching 6 million installs now.  So I guess it depends on what your threshold for "that many people" is, sure it's not 50% or anything but also keep in mind that 50% of the install base aren't likely to get the PS VR either.

As for the Move.  Yes, it's only required for certain games.  Flight sim games live EVE: Valkyrie (my personal favorite) use the standard gamepad as do driving games like Gran Turismo Sport (or optionally a steering wheel).

I suspect they left it off just to keep the price down as low as they could.  It's not launching until October anyway so you might want to keep an eye out for Black Friday and other holiday bundles around that time too.
