Halo Widescreen

Recommended Posts

Ok. Got Halo. It gives the option in the Video Settings to go to 1280 x 768 resolution. Since I have a widescreen monitor, I tried it. However, it just seems like everything is stretched to fit the screen rather than true widescreen (i.e. my energy and ammo are just stretched when on a map, giving me the impression that everything else is stretched). I don't feel like I am actually seeing anymore of the board than I usually do. Is there a tweak so that I can actually see more of the gaming map on the sides? Thanks.

You will need to manually edit config.txt.

There will be a line that says MaximumResolution=

Input your desired res.

Be sure to remove "//" before the line and then save the file.

Ok. Looked at config.txt. I see MaximumResolution= given as a possible command at the top, but I do not see it in the main file. Also, how would I edit correctly. For example, my card is a GeForce 5600. So how should I edit this: 0x0313 = "GeForceFX 5600" or this: 0x0312 = "GeForceFX 5600" ? Thank you for your help.

edit: checked Widescreen forum. Nothing there I haven't seen, except these: they recommend editing the shortcut line. Would this produce a different result than changing the reso in the game settings? They also mention powerstrip, which I've never heard of.

You just need to remove the two "//" from the beginning of the line to "activate" that command.

e.g. MaximumResolution=1280x800

As for powerstrip, it is an application available at www.entechtaiwan.com that can be used to identify, tweak, OC and configure your graphics card and monitor. You can use powerstrip to set "exotic" resolutions that normally would not be available to you.

Ok...I think that worked. It's hard to tell, as the ammo and energy levels are stretched from normal, but the writing on my gun (viewing the main map) doesn't look distorted. Thank you for your help.
