Latest Windows 11 Patch Tuesday fixes Firewall issue by Usama Jawad Microsoft rolled out Patch Tuesday updates for Windows 10 and Windows 11 yesterday. For the former, the release primarily contains security patches, but for the latter, there are several other fixes and enhancements in tow too. One of those is related to a pesky Windows Firewall issue that cropped up recently. About a week ago, Microsoft acknowledged an issue in the June 2025 non-security preview update for Windows 11 (KB5060829), which resulted in Windows Firewall with Advanced Security logging an error event. That said, the company emphasized to customers that there is nothing to worry about as this particular log does not indicate any malfunction in Windows Firewall, and is just related to an upcoming feature that has not been fully developed yet. It informed IT admins that they don't need to take any action to resolve this issue and can either ignore it or filter it out from Event Viewer. With the latest Patch Tuesday updates that became available for Windows 11, version 24H2 yesterday (KB5062553), Microsoft has confirmed that this Windows Firewall problem has now been fully resolved. The updated Windows Release Health dashboard entry does not reveal any other details, but it does urge customers to install the latest Patch Tuesday update in order to get rid of the faulty error log. For those interested in the details, the error was being logged as Event 2042 each time the device was restarted. It was listed as Config Read Failed with an additional message noting that "More data is available". It wasn't a major concern for IT admins and customers since this faulty error event did not impact any of the operating system's operations or processes, but Microsoft first acknowledged this problem on July 2, so it's nice to see the company rolling out the patch in an efficient manner. -

Apple names next COO as incumbent prepares to retire by Paul Hill Apple has announced a major transition occurring within its ranks in the upcoming months. It said that Jeff Williams, the current CEO, is going to transition to focusing solely on design and Health initiatives before retiring late in the year. Taking over the position will be Sabih Khan. When Williams departs, Apple said the design team will report directly to CEO Tim Cook. The company said that this move is part of a long-planned transition. To help ensure a smooth transition, Khan will take over as COO later this month, several months before Williams retires. This could help to keep investors worried about any shake up settled about the transition. Microsoft has recently been laying off managerial workers to flatten the hierarchy in the company. By having the design team report directly to Cook, Apple is also flattening, albeit on a smaller scale. Sabih Khan is not a well known name to the public but he’ll be bringing tons of experience to his role as COO. He has been at Apple for 30 years and joined the executive team as senior vice president of Operations in 2019. Over the last six years, he has overseen Apple’s global supply chain, focusing on product quality, ensuring smooth operations, and ensuring Apple’s suppliers are socially responsible. Before he came to Apple in 1995 to work in the procurement group, Khan worked at GE Plastics as an applications development engineer and key account technical leader. He earned bachelor’s degrees in economics and mechanical engineering at Tufts University and a master’s degree in mechanical engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Outgoing COO Jeff Williams has had a 27-year career at Apple and 40 years in the industry. He has played a big role in developing Apple’s supply chain, including launching Apple Watch and building the company’s health strategy. In recent years he has had oversight of the design team but is now retiring to spend more time with his family.
