xRKx
There's also a little adjustment cog in the rear of the DVD drive that you can use to adjust the tilt of the lens which often increases its reading. The PS2 DVD drives seem to be utter garbage (in my experience at least,) which always have problems eventually. Either way, you can either send it back to Sony (it's a 2 year warranty on 'em, ain't it?) or else, open it, clean the lens really good - and... bah - I don't know how to describe it - but if you google the subject, you'll find information on the servicing gear (which is what service techs will most likely adjust if you send it for service anyway.) Of course - there's always the possibility that you simply have a dead drive, too. :/

Liquid
I too sold my Version 7 for a Version 9. 9 rocks my world. And, it's much quieter too!! its quieter, and im almost 100% sure that its a faster DVD-Rom. Vice City loads in under 1 minute now. Features of Version 9 compared to all others: Built in IR Port for DVD remote. Playback of DVD-R/W +R/RW Progressive Scan for DVD's Support. New BIOS (duh) Quieter (you cant even hear it now unless your using the network adaptor which draws more power causing the fan to speed up.) And I forgot to add, they took the filters off the vents to allow better airflow.
dougkinzinger
You're probably right. I notice that FFX seems to load faster too!

imtoomuch
Just take it apart and clean the laser lense. That has always worked for people I know.
dougkinzinger
True, but sometimes the laser itself dies, or other problems.
PSiBER
It probably needs good careful lens cleaning, or lens adjustment. If you dont really know how to open the PS2 up, I advise you not attempt to open the PS2 up, and start cleaning. I had a friend who opened his PS2 up, trying the clean the sh!t inside his PS2. Then the drive would not read anything after that, and the PS2 was considered dead after that. Oh yea, its reccomended that you dont play DVD's on your PS2, it makes the lens go bad eventually, because it takes more power for the PS2 to read DVD movies. So if you want to watch your DVD's, use your DVD PLAYER.
