danbalsh
http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=53980 I was wondering when this was going to happen  bit of a shame really but $49 for iLife '04 is very reasonable I think. aristotle-dude
There will be no free update to 2004 for those who bought iLife before but it will be free with any new macs. I'm not sure if updates on the existing individual apps will be free but I would venture to guess that you will only be able to get Garage band with iLife 2004 or later. patseguin Global Moderator Posted January 7, 2004 Global Moderator Share Posted January 7, 2004 All the Mac news sites are stating that these apps will no longer be free downloads, with the exception of iTunes. I personally don't mind because it is great software and $49 is a real bargain. I never really understood why Apple made it free in the first place. Southern Patriot
I'm just going to hold my judgement on this till I hear something official from Apple. After all, they have always sold iLife seperately for those not wanting to bother downloading it, why would that change now? I'll just wait till the new versions are released and see if they show up in Software Update. And by the way Wickedkitten, your avatar is not showing up today. seen_xu
how many guys out there will pay for the new ilife 04?
Tim Dorr Veteran Posted January 7, 2004 Veteran Share Posted January 7, 2004 I can get it for $25, so yeah, I'll buy it. I'm technically a government employee, but not like Apple checks that you're *actually* a government employee when ordering... ;)
Southern Patriot
I am waiting to see if the apps that I would use (iMovie, iPhoto, and iTunes) are going to be free updates or not. I don't have a DVD recorder, and I'm not all that interested in making music, so I don't have any use for Garage Band or iDVD, but the others look nice. I could get it at the student price anyway, but even that is more expensive than free.

Elliott
how many guys out there will pay for the new ilife 04? I would pay for GarageBand alone. I'm definitely getting iLife '04 when I can.

Tim Dorr Veteran Posted January 8, 2004 Veteran Share Posted January 8, 2004 government employee? i thought they only gave individual discounts? where do you see government? Yeah, that's what I mean. It's $25 for individual purchase by a gov. employee. And they don't check if you're a gov. employee from what I'ev heard...
isus
lol timdorr. when i get a mac more powerful than a 500mhz ibook, i'll see what i need, and then buy it... our school has been getting 900mhz g3 ibook's lately... they have a special image so only 9.2 is on them. i got jaguar for free through a teacher's program (my father is a counselor at my school). otherwise, i'll just wait until i get my g5 powerbook this summer ;)

Zerosignull
As long as they publish free bugfixes like they do with the O/S then it is a very good proce for two very usefull peaces of software. Itunes will never becom pay for software. Not only would that help kill of the ITMS it would also give on hell of a good reason not to change to a mac.
