GamonC
I'm trying to do some tech support for mac's, but I don't know how to tell if a computer is a G3, G4, G5, or what. Is there an easy way for me to have a customer tell me what they have (if they don't know already)?
Pilsbury
Model number off the back is one way (then do a google search). Beige machines will have a model number. Blue machines will be G3. Grey will be G4... If it's running, Apple System Profiler will tell you more info.
Southern Patriot
If it's running OS X, simply go to the Apple menu, about this computer. That will tell you what you need to know. I can't remember for sure if that information was in the same menu item in OS 9 and earlier, but I think it was.
