Finally found a Distro that is right for me !

Recommended Posts

Hi all, Just a quick thank you to everyone on these boards (esp the Linux one), thanks to you I have finally found a Linux Distro I am happy with.

Over the past couple of months I have gone back and forth from RH9 to MDK9.1 to Fedora back to RH9 again, and I could never seem to get away with any of them.

Anyway, after reading many posts singing the praises of Slackware, I decided (relectuntly) to give it a go. At first I was horified to be left with nothing but the Bash after the initial install. But further reading and trial and error, I decided that this was the one for me.

I think it is the fact that none of the WindowsManagers come "enhanced" like the ones with RH etc.. so I felt I had more controll over the actual customisation. The fact I was left to fend for myself so to speak, helped me a great deal, no fancy GUI to hold my hand and configure the likes of X and mount points.

I am still very unsure on what to do to get most things to work, but at least when I do do it, I will have done it by my self.

Thanks again guys, and no doubt Ill be on here again soon asking more "newbie" questions.

Matthew
