When uninstalling a program, does it leave 'junk'?

Recommended Posts

In Windows, we all know that uninstalling a program leaves all kinds of crap and registry entries.

Is this the same for Mac OS X Panther, or not as bad?

I'm pretty new to Mac's and learning fast (planning to buy a 1Ghz eMac SuperDrive in the next few months).

Well, there is no registry, so no, it doesn't really. The only exception may be some stuff in the Library folder under Preferences or Application Support. You can double check there, but you don't have to worry about figuring out what application the reg key {12314-A2412-DA941-Q9RE2-QW934} corresponds to... :)

Some programs also leave behind hidden files (these are files that begin with a period ("."). Check your Library folder, Preferences, etc. to find these. Example: Type "ls .*" to show all files in any given directory, including hidden.

When ever I delete an app, I just use Panthers new fast search for the apps name I want gone, and delete the files it might have.

Even apps and games with installers usually dont leave much behind, it is great :p
