Samus No Longer Alone

Recommended Posts

January 08, 2004 - The hotly anticipated sequel to the first-person adventure Metroid Prime is well underway by Retro Studios and is expected to be shown in updated form at May's Electronics Entertainment Expo 2004. According to two separate sources close to Nintendo, the title will this time around include not only a deep single-player experience but a full-blown multiplayer one, too.

Insiders were unable to provide IGNcube with any concrete details regarding the mode, except to say that it has been part of the design spec for the game since the original was released. It is not known if the addition will include support for two or four-player split-screen battles.

One source speculated that players might be able to assume the roles of Samus or a Metroid in the multiplayer mode.

IGNcube has been unable to validate any of these allegations by another party.    ...........

I'm actually a little saddened by this. I don't want to see Metroid turn into some FPS fragfest, that's not what Metroid is about.

yeah, I wanna be a metroid, so I can get my ass handed to me

What would be really cool is if the boss fighters were 2 player modes, so one person could be a boss, and one could be Samus. That could be fun.

Metroid Prime has got to be one of the best first person shooters on a console I have ever played. It's accually the only one I like. I look forward to seeing some multiplayer action for it, I think it's a great idea.

For thoughs that have not played Metroid Prime yet, it's a must have for gamecube owners, along with Eternal Darkness, and Zelda: Windwaker.

It's a life sucking leech that attaches it self to your skull and proceeds to drain all of your bodily fluids. :/

Not true, the Space Pirates couldn't figure out how the metroids were draining the energy from their victims (if you read the various logs in Prime) and were perplexed by it. :geek:

i think this is beautiful and will probably be the thing that makes me finally get a cube. i've always wanted some sort of multiplayer for the game. i think a coop would be nice, especially after playing the coop in return of the king, but i think it would be much easier for them to implement a deathmatch mode than a coop-mode. however i'm sure they'll find a way to do what they will want to do. this e3 is shaping up to be a great one, with nintendo's next secret machine to be shown, halo 2 will be out by then or shown (hopefully), xbox 2 might even be there, and with the psp being there, i might need to finally go to this e3.

it wasnt until Metroid Prime that i found out how SMART the space pirates actually were. kinda amazing lol but damn were they a b!tch to fight sometimes. anyway that was by far one of the best games i've ever played. i waited nearly a decade for another metroid game and prime didnt let me down at all. multiplayer might be a nice add-on. those who liked it for its value will still understand its value, those who want to play it merely for the multiplayer action wont understand. but who cares. as long as the game pleases die hard fans of metroid, its fine with me.

Careful! Metroid fanboys will consider MP to NOT be a FPS (even though we all know it is).

I'm no fanboy of the game and I say its not an FPS. An FPS is Quake, Serious Sam, etc. Mindless frag fests.

Metroid Prime doesn't focus on fighting. More on exploration. So its definately not an FPS. Have you even played the game?

Assuming they keep the same control scheme I don't see there being a deathmatch.

If it does it'll just be two players locked on circle strafing eachother, which to me doesn't seem like too much fun.

Not calling it an FPS is splitting hairs.

Yes, I own the game. I've had it and MF since the day they were released.

Yes but it's the principle of the thing, you cannot compare MP to Quake or HL or any other FPS, it's in a genre of its own.

I call it an "FPS" due to it's technicaly a First Person Perspective Shooter. The way MP plays I think it's safe to call it a FPS. I think the game design was great, being mostly a PC gamer, FPS console games make my hands feel retarted, and MP made this go away. :D

see i disagree. I'll agree with the First Person Prespective, but I honestly don't believe its a "shooter". Yes theres battles in the game, but the game doesn't revolve around fighting - more around exploration and tasks. To me, that sets the game apart from the FPS genre.

But hey, to each their own! :)

Right. I don't have a GC, but I've played Prime and I consider it more like 'Descent' ... more focus on exploring than an all-out shooting spectacular.
