unknown753
I currently have a computer I bought only a year ago. The specs are: Intel Pentium 4 @ 2.4Ghz Windows XP Home 512MB RAM 40GB HardDrive CD-RW/DVD Combo Drive Floppy Disk Drive 3 USB Ports, Infared, Firewire, etc. NIC Card Modem etc, etc, etc. .. Its a HP Pavillion xt183 in perfect condition. Anyway, I'd like to trade it in for a desktop mainly because i'd like to play games on the computer and being able to upgrade a desktop is just so much easier. If anyone knows any companies that would let me trade this in for credit towards one of their computers (I checked dell's website and called them but apparantly their "trade-up" website is gone). Any help would be appreciated.

unknown753
There is always Ebay. Tge least you could do is sell the components seperately. It's a laptop. I don't want to scrap the thing. Also, i hate eBay. I may be being difficult but I appreciate the suggestion and if thats the only way then I guess i'll take that route. Thanks for the reply again. cyclingplatypus
You could always take it into a small computer shop and see if they'll work with you or take it to a computer show/fair. You know the ones you always hear "buy a desktop for $99"...I've traded some software/hardware without hassle to both.
+chorpeac MVC Posted January 9, 2004 MVC Share Posted January 9, 2004 yeah you could go to a small shop, but they aren't going to give you poop for it. A laptop would do much better on Ebay. Easier to ship! I would ebay dude. Unless you can find a friend/family member to sell it too.
unknown753
I must say you guys are tempting me to actually use *shivers* eBay *shivers* . Only 2 more questions from me and I will vanish into my hiding spot again in neowin. What's a fair asking price for this laptop and are there any safety tips to use when on eBay to protect myself from being scammed? I don't like paypal and prefer money orders. Sorry if the question may seem "n00bish" but I am a virgin when it comes to eBay.
bkellner
ebay or amazon... maybe sell it to someone you know, or post it at a community college or something near you.
+chorpeac MVC Posted January 9, 2004 MVC Share Posted January 9, 2004 Well, if you don't like Paypal, then I would only accept a money order or cashiers check, and wait for the check to clear before sending the item. I'm not sure how much, you can look on ebay and see what your model is selling for and guage from that. Just be truthful and tell them what is wrong (if anything) and what is included. Make sure you figure out a close to exact shipping price, so you don't undercharge yourself. Always insure it if it is over $100. Hope that helps
