hifive
I just got back my PSAT Score: 185 out of 240. Kind of Sad. But it's ok, I'm only a sophomore, and the Real PSAT for National Merit is taken when I'm a Junior. But even so, I realized that I missed a lot of English questions and I don't understand why. Here's one: The historic San Diego Zoo features more animal species than any other city in the country; some of them can be seen in captivity nowhere else. Anyone know which underlined statement is incorrect - Grammar wise? Thanks.
aem4162
seems ok as is *edit* maybe replace "any other city" with "any other zoo"? or replace "some of them" with "some of those"? some grammar is ****** up because it makes absolutely no sense at all
hifive
Wrong. :)

neowin_hipster
some of them, its after a semi-colon. That's my guess. Grammer is really unimportant in the grand scheme of things. Its all about people understanding what you say. In fact, legal documents have grammer errors in them too.

pimpshiznid
Actually nowhere elseshould beanywhere else I dunno, it's been awhile with SATs and PSATs. XST1
some of them can be seen in captivity nowhere else. I believe that nowhere else makes no sense with the sentence. How can you see an animal in captivity nowhere else? It should be more like anywhere else

hifive
It's any other city. visionary gets it right. I didn't even think of that at all... :( So simple, and yet I miss it. I may have some more; I'll post them if I do. English kills me all the time. I got a perfect score on the Math portion.
mzkhadir
Just a guess nowhere else is the problem, it doesn't sound right. Plus check the tense of the sentences.

-}x0{-
"any other city" should be changed because you have not talked about a first city to begin with. to say "any other city" the statement would need to say something like san diego has a historic zoo which cant be found in any other city. trikster
What's the correct answer? The PSAT tells you on your score sheet.
Jason S. Global Moderator Posted January 10, 2004 Global Moderator Share Posted January 10, 2004 you cant say "some of them" when youre talking about a singular zoo. they are just implying animals... wasnt said.

Original_
1) You can't get an 800 on the PSAT. Only the SAT (like my SAT I Math ^^). 2) Sophmore SAT scores don't really matter. I would recommend taking a prep course though - my district put on a free one for those of us who did well our Sophmore Year. 3) Not really important, but the grammar section raped me on my PSAT - 65(0)... I had perfect on Math and Verbal = 225. Still ****es me off. 4) And for SAT Prep... Princeton Review's Cracking the SAT... that book owns so freaking much. "The SAT is about how well you take a test" <--- so true once you get above 1500
