still weird thing they didnt turned it on

After months of speculation and occasional derision, Infinium Labs has finally unveiled their Phantom PC game console at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. Although the presenters never actually turned the machine on, they did display the first physical example of the console for the press to ogle.

means it is empy inside :woot:

I remember seeing a picture of some kid playing a game with the console, it was huge! A lot bigger than the Xbox that's for sure. This thing is a computer, plain and simple. I don't think it'll be able to hold in the market with microsoft, sony and nintendo.

If this thing does eventuate, and it becomes possible to Install Windows 2003 and/or Linux on it, I think I will buy one to replace my aging server, The inbuilt cable modem is a big plus for that

If in the future is able to Run AMD64 (And Windows XP), or it is possible for it to be upgraded like any other PC, I might buy another one to replace my Desktop PC

The only two things I don't like about it is so far is that 1) it had nVidia graphics, I prefer ATi and 2) it doesn't appear to have a VGA port (and hopefully PCI cards can be added to the phatom, even if it requires a little case modding)

so what exactly does it do?

It makes threads on message boards and news sites all over the net, heh. Seriously though, nobody really knows and mostly everyone don't care at this point.

Now that I look at it, is there any good reason to have 1) cable modem and lan 2) 3 types of audio out (2 of which are Dolby Digital) and 3) three types of video out? Especially since it appears to have no inputs, and ... unless it really is just going to be a computer, why 4 USB slots? 4? For a gaming machine?

ehhh ... it still looks like junk to me.

Yeah I agree, it should at least have Audio in.

i'll just add to the stupidity of that design... it's engineered like it was made by a 12yr old... 1st you don't put a coax input for a cable modem! if you have cable internet you have to have your device provisioned... and they only provision devices they support! (yes even with DOCSIS) which makes that completely pointless... and if you have a cable modem you probably have a computer also, so why would you want to waste two cable connections to to modem devices? cable loses signal strength as you add more items... near 0dbz is the best signal... just 2 cable modems on the same line can drop that to -12dbz... which is getting in bad power range for cable... stupid engineereing on the designs here...

at least xbox has all its multiple video supported devices built into one port... which can have what ever cable adapter you need for your format plugged into it, or audio format...

That's for it's inbuilt cable modem

your kidding me right? *LOL* even my cable modem alone doesn't have a token ring port on it... this system is rediculous.. it's like they put every kind of port they could think on it... all it's missing is IR port and IEEE1394 .....
