Help Creating Multi Layer Windows Icons

Hey all,

 

I'm attempting to update some of the icons in Devices and Printers in Windows 8. I downloaded the Devices and Printers Metadata Authoring Wizard but I have no idea how to created the icons needed.

 

I have used this How to Make a Icon with a Image Tutorial but my effort did not work.

 

Any help or tips are welcome
