BxBoy
any idea why my linux box would keep rebooting itself? It loads fine, but 2 minutes in.. it would just reboot..
markwolfe Veteran Posted January 11, 2004 Veteran Share Posted January 11, 2004 Sorry, I am not at my Linux box at the moment, but I think that dmesg can be used to see what is going on (at least at boot-up), and maybe something odd will show up there... If it reboots too quickly to act on it, try dmesg > ~/yikes or something like that to dump the dmesg output to a file. Also, if you do init 3 to force a runlevel 3, does your PC stay up (in text mode)? If so, then you have a video / XFree problem...
BxBoy
There is nothing wrong with the bootup, so dmesg would not really be helpful.. it goes into the GUI mode and all that. But a few minutes in, the system would just reboot. So I'm not sure if it's a conflict somewhere. Are there any other steps I should take in diagnosing the problem?
