I hate first person shooter!

Recommended Posts

 I have spent so much money on PC games recently that I don't like I feel like a fool (except for the fact that I learned I don't like them I have gained nothing). I have been trying to exploit the power of my PC before I change platform.

I own:

Midnight Club 2

Need for Speed Underground

Halo

Max Payne 1

MS Flight Sim 2004

Warcraft 3

GTA3 Vice City

Call of Duty

The only one that I really enjoy is NFSU.

MC2 is okay except it chokes on graphics after playing NFSU.

I really just don't have the patience to be killed a million times, I guess. I take it personally, sorry...I start sweating and after being shot a million times I kind of give up on the whole think due to loss of morale, among other things.

I would really appreciate some advice. I like racing simulation games, and I have heard that the Nascar 2004 game is good. However, I was looking at the box, about to buy it when I noticed that it uses DX 8.1. I am assuming, if it is a well written game, that it must look good, probably not as good as NFSU.

I would really appreciate your advice choosing another game to buy, as I have beaten NFSU and need something else to occupy my time, as I have finished NFSU....

Thanks! I really appreciate any input!

:)

max payne dos wasnt really supposed to be a really graphic oriented game anyways.. i kinda liked how they made everything though.. thought it was nice

but nfsu was just.. i dont know..

(the glossy roads, the need for speed blur effect.. good game but i think fast and furious was a piece of garbage)

if ya got an xbox try project gotham 2.. heard it was good but im yet to play it myself

and if youre into RPG's and such.. i heard a star wars knights of the old republic was good.. very addictive

Very funny...

Yes, I like Max Payne 1...for a few minutes, until I get murdered again and again...I guess the point of the game is to just get better at killing...however, I must admit it is well written, graphically it is stunning...

I guess the difference between me and the average joe game player is that I don't particularly enjoy killing other virtual bodies...however, I do enjoy a good sim; especially car racing.

...it's just not my kind of adrenaline.

I figured that Microsoft could at least make a good flying sim...sorry but MS Flight Sim 2004 is a little too...well...historical...

...and I guess I am an oddball, considering that the "whole world" is waiting on the freaking edge of their seats for half life 2 to come out, and I am assuming that it is a first person shooter like half life one? To be honest, I have never played half life one.

If it is a first person shooter...the likes of the rest of 'em...I guess I should put my HL2 coupon on ebay now...maybe I could get five bucks for it...

Are you always killing or being killed in tron?

Most of Tron 2.0 is fighting. But on the upside your not killing people your derezzing computer programs (if that makes you feel better). But you could always just play the Light Cycle matches, which doesn't involve running and gunning. No matter what I would say you should at least download the demo (you can find it a www.tron20.net) and give it a try, it's in my opinion, the greatest game to come out in 2003.

But if you like simulation programs go pick up a copy of SimCity 4, great city simulation program (and a great all around game). Also if you would like a little combat thrown in with simulation pick up a copy of MechWarrior 3 (4 is out but it's more of a gunning game less of a simulation).

What's wrong with Warcraft III anyway? Its a good game, and if you don't like the normal Battle.net games, there's always plenty of custom maps on which you can try out various new playing styles.

I am with you there. I mean some of these games require you to actually study the freaking commands to know how to play it...

...shouldn't games be more intuitive?

;);)

I enjoy games that pose a challenge to me. I don't mind it when they are complicated, either.

But... you're going to have to check out review sites to find a game that suits you best. I can't really get a good bearing on what you do or do not enjoy, so I really cannot help you :(

Good luck, though.

hmmm, 3 threads now on what are good games

Everyone's entitled to their own opinions, but first person shooters are the ultimate games....instead of seeing through the perspective of a free floating camera in space getting stuck in locations that no human being should/would be able to get to....Doom/Wolfenstein 3D revolutionarised the industry because it was a "realistic" game, in that any old joe could look at the screen and see what character they played....it "personalised" the player as the character.

I know my wording sucks, so I'll simultaneously plug the upcoming Doom 3 and quote Tim Willits, lead designer on Doom 3 of Id software (this comes from an interview in PC Powerplay):

Doom 3 is scary because you are in control. Only in first-person gaming do you see through the eyes of the character, and in turn sense that things are happening to you."

Well.. Warcraft III has the custom games mode which don't require the mastery of hotkeys and all that stuff. To be honest, I got sick of getting my butt handed to me by friends and people on Battle.net :D, so I switched over to custom games..

Most custom games are pretty fun, easy to pick up, and don't require actual long hours to get good at. Consider them sort of mini-games :)

You know....those games have DEMOS which you can download first to decide if you like the game or not. You should try it...and save yourself some cash. Call me crazy.
