The Monthly Pay of A Worker in North Korea

Recommended Posts

I've read several articles about North Korea, by different visitors from China who traveled to North Korea. they indicated the nationwide average monthly pay of a worker of NK is about 4 yuan RMB (about 0.485US$) per month, while a mayor of NK enjoys 200 yuan (about 24 US$) per month. The year of the statistics is 2001.

I'd like to read those reliable reports from AP, CNN, BBC, AFP etc about the income of NK workers.

not really

look what the mayor makes

now compare that to the ave wage in new york, compared to their mayors wage

you tell me if anything is wrong now.

the difference (percentage wise) is about the same

it just seems like a lot less because it is a whole 50 cents USD

but their way of living is cheap

hell, if the mayor can get away with having 24 bux for a month

i think i might go there for vacation soon

Probably because your not the one working there.

Typical arrogant person.

well if that's what the average person makes, it's enough for their standard of living. so it's no big deal really.

cheap labour = mass production

i see nothing wrong with this

i should go to the gap now

I didn't get what is "mass production".

Chinese visitors said bicycle is still a luxury in NK, so most of citizens have to walk (bus service is also so bad). No Internet service there, you cannot surf in NK, unless you agree to just use Email. But the cost of per Email is about 3 yuan (almost equals to the monthly pay of a worker in NK!)

@ StevoFC, Bush said recently, citizens are starving to death in NK. What is "enough for their standard of living"?

as i am filipino, i know for a fact that people over in asain countries, although they dont make much money, they usually grow their own food, and depend on nature heavily. my reletives in the philippines are really poor, and compared to them, im filthy rich. i think americans take for granted their everyday things... like food.. and computers..

and take this into consideration.. yes 4 yuan might not seem like much.. but over in the philippines $.50 cents can go a loooong way.. yet you have to take into consideration that, not only are those ppl in nk overworked, but they are also underpaid, and most likely live in poverty (compared to our standard of living over here).. very sad that ppl still live like that..

johnsonbox: if your so horrified by the way people are living in other countries, instead of posting topics about it and others with pictures about children why dont u do something better with your life and help them out.

as for this, its unfortunate but what are you gonna do. arent they communist btw???

Yeah they are communist. It does suck to have such a low pay, but they probably dont know that. That 50 cents is probably enough for them. They might even be happy with their lives. But who knows..

@ mopper: communism doesn't really work.

@ sadatkarim: "But who knows"?

It estimated there were less than 200,000 citizens of NK having escaped from NK to China. For these "traitors", China is the heaven while NK is the hell. Don't you know most of food in NK's shops are from China? But some Chinese officials in the border between China and NK have ever witnessed that NK troops sometimes caught bunches of ppl, who were just unwilling to stay in their country starving to death, and wanted to slip the border to China; and the troops penetrated the so-called traitors' clavicle, all adults' and children's, with iron wire; and then dragging the victims to a wood, shooting them down...

Sad, sad, really sad stories! I could not imagine such cruel truths. They could kill those poor children!

But I think such sad stories still need further proofs. But there is a sure thing, that is, the leader of NK is a shameless dictator!

Their horible life is our gain when we can buy lots of nice sh*t because of cheap labor over there.

wtf are you talking about?

NK doesn't export anything(other than nukes to terrorist)

so their "horible life" makes absolutly no difference to the rest of the world. it doesn't matter what they are getting paid since NK doesn't trade with anybody.

if the US didn't have minimum wage laws the average joe would be making around 80cents and hour

it's all the same really.. it's like if we really made 80 cents and hour then a bigmac wouldn't cost what it is now.

and $30,000 would be 5,000

just examples...
