STV
Hello all, I really hope that you can tell me if the pop-up in the attached image explain something that is true or just something to get me to click on the link and download the software. I am sorry for my ignorance on this issue, but I never felt a need to learn what the internet is. Please help, STV
.Atlantis
It's very fake. www.whatismyip.com that tells you your IP, it's not an invulnerability. It's just another lame ad :)

zhangm Supervisor Posted January 11, 2004 Supervisor Share Posted January 11, 2004 No. Generally, don't even read popups. Just click the close box and make them go away. If you're that concerned with security, get a firewall going, and download either Adaware, or Spybot S&D, both which can be found on Google. You may also want to download a new browser, such as Mozilla Firebird, which will block those popups so you won't even be tempted to click them. *Edit: Be Patient! nugg3t
i usually close those kinds of pop ups. u should do the same. "...free scanner to download that will find and remove all spyware..." .pfft whatever. i only trust ad-aware. maybe im wrong to do so but i heard it was the best program to remove spy ware ad ware etc if your computer is slower than it should be, or the internet is slower than it should be, just use ad-aware. STV
Thank you all very much for your comments. I think that ill check this ad-aware program out. Thanks again, STV
tigerofsweden
yeah do so, adaware is the best program for this, maybe get a firewall and download spybot too..
Erich
um, ussually those programs install spyware... get adaware, and kill anything you got. It's very easy to check what resolution your screen is set at, what explorer your using, and what operating system your on along with some other information you computer broadcasts. The best one is when they make a frame for you c:\ drive and say how insecure your files are if any website can see it... the only thing is you'll only see that on your local machine. The amount of spyware, adware, malware is really getting crazy out of hand. Do all you can to be safe.
EZRecovery
i heard it was the best program to remove spy ware ad ware etc For spyware programs I use Spy Sweeper 2.2 - Very good spyware remover For popups, I use AdsGone Popup Killer 2004 - Very good blocker Like someone said, Mozilla Firebird has a good integrated popup blocker. And if you use IE, do a google search for Google Toolbar, download it and install it. :D

fjh
I use Adware 6.0, Spybot 1.2, and ZoneAlarm. Between the three of these software programs spyware is pretty much taken care of.

STV
I have already tried and installed the adaware program, it found like 30-something items (malware, data miner). what is a data miner? I will also give those other programs (Spy Sweeper 2.2, Sybot 1.2, and Zone Alarm) Thanks again, STV
