unexpected mac updates?

i just can't let it go. lol.

i was just perusing macosrumors, and they say this:

"Not impressed by MWSF? Well then you're in luck. The usual whiners and crybabies have come pouring out of the woodwork to decry MWSF 2004 as a "snoozefest" among other colorful adjectives; whether you agree with them or not, Apple has heard them loud and clear. Senior Apple personalities who have been roaming the show floor post-keynote have been overheard pointedly dropping hints of an Apple event later in the month that will update the PowerMac G5 and at least one other Mac along with it -- and the upgrades will be "even more ambitious than what the rumor sites would have you expect"..."

GAH! POWERBOOK G5! IMAC G5! DUAL 2.6GHZ PMACS!

come on.. 500.00 PowerMac G5 with a 19" Inch Flat Panel..

//ok I can only hope ;)

god that would be nice.

imagine the market share would have then, as so many people say they don't use macs because of the price.

yea id be in

unfortunately, it would never happen.

why you ask?

apple would never make a 19" flat panel, are you out of your goddamn mind?

ok, the price might be a little off too, but...

I wouldnt hold my breath...those G5s require HUGE heatsinks and powerbooks run hot enough already...I hear you can fry an egg on a 12inch one while playing Q3

If you want to hedge your bets around the 24th then order on the 20th or so. Apple's 7 day policy return policy is still in effect if you "get hosed" with upgrades. Sometimes they'll even upgrade your order to the new kit automatically which means you'd be first in line and hopefully avoid the waiting game.

few rumors have credibility. that's the point :ninja:

Not true. If this were posted on Thinksecret or Macrumors, I'd believe it. They are usually correct with what they post. Macosrumors and appleinsider are not.

Regardless of what MacOSRumors or AI is saying, it *does* make sense that a PM update is coming given their history of updates (PM's were updated this same time last year), and given the introduction of the 90nm G5 into the marketplace (in the XServe G5's).

well, it's not like macosrumors is just saying this... all you would have to do is look for the weblog of somebody who was there, and who saw said apple executives and listened to them.

I thought MWSF04 was a great keynote. The new iLife was trick, GarageBand demos, new Xserves, iPod mini, etc. all kept me pumped. If I were Apple I would update stuff throughout the year rather than let everyone lay stagnant and wait to see the next best thing out. If Apple released what we all hoped everyone would talk about it for the first month and then Apple would be outta the press. Smart thing to always keep their name in the media and let the rumors sites do what they do best.

very true pixlnet. this is one thing apple is getting better at... analysts are happy with garageband. later on they will be happy with pmac speed bumps, and so on and so forth.

this helps apple keep a nice chunk of mindshare. it doesn't hurt stock prices much either.

as the apple turns was right... we should have bought a little while ago when apple was slowing back down, near $20.

Sorry, but some random guy's blog that says they heard Apple execs talking about big releases would hold zero credibility. There are a lot of Mac rumor sites out there, but one thing you will learn is that only a couple are to be taken seriously. The other thing you will learn is Apple execs, or really anyone high up on the Apple chain, never talk about future products unless they have been announced by Apple.

Tim: Yeah I expect the Pmac to updated. It's fairly obvious it will be updated given Apple's history, like you pointed out. It's the G5 iMac or Powerbook being introduced this month that I am taking exception to.

I expect the PMacs to use the G5 that were used in the xServe G5 and to recieve a speed bump because of the great cooling capabilty of the current G5 PMac design:

Low: Single 1.8 G5

Middle: Dual 2.0 G5

Top: Dual 2.3/2.5/2.6 G5

The G5 is still currently too hot for a Powerbook and from reading the history of the G4's transition from PMac to PBook, we've still got a while to wait....

We might get a special edition Mac that will cost a bomb and be in limited quantities, but I don't expect it to happen be honest...

ss1.
