Is it illegal?

It depends. If you are Microsoft Certified/Partner, there's a special logo you can use for that. If you are an offical ATI Partener/Distributor, there's also a special logo for that. Otherwise, just chucking on logos would probably not be a good idea.

So i cant put on the standard logo's that for exaple neowin uses on the news? Just the normal logo?

Well, I'm not sure what agreements are in place for Neowin, but a)It's not a business as such, and b)They may be bending the rules a tad there.

If you want to know for sure, email the contact for this kind of thing in whatever region you purchase from - otherwise you could end up in legal mud.

"The logos may only be used in close proximity to, or in obvious connection with, a published article or broadcast news story about Microsoft Corporation or a specific Microsoft product or service. "

Well that fits Neowin - but I'm not quite sure about Farquaon's case.

If i put for example microsoft's logo and ATI etc on one of my company's invoices or quotes etc?

No because in this case it may imply that your company has no legal relationship with Microsoft or ATI. If you really would like to do this, you should contact the respective company's to assertain what criteria must be met.

Farquaon, don't rely purely on answers from this forum. folks here give pretty much crapshoot answers.

contact somebody who works with such things for a living..such as copyright lawers

By law you are a loud to use a logo if you are not using it to mis-represent yourself by using the logo ie. to make money by using the logo

I wouldn't trust anyone regarding legal advice who spells allowed 'a loud.'

Hehehehehehe

From a consumers perspective, if a company displays another companys logo, that then gives the impression that the two companys are affiliated in some way. If you are not affiliated with Microsoft or ATI, then don't pretend that you are. Your just opening yourself up to legal implications.

However, you maybe able to get away with something such as "We use and recommend *small ATI Logo here* products" or something similar that shows your not affiliated and only recommend them.

Indeed, you'd need formal permission in some form to display a company's logo on something you do.

Depending on what you're doing, it may not be quite as difficult or complex as you'd expect, but they'll probably have some fairly basic requirements, and you should contact them directly or at least review related info that is likely available somewhere on their website(s).
