Xbox One consoles will gain support for BD-R and BD-RE

If you've been yearning to play recorded Blu-ray media on your Xbox One or Xbox One S, your wait is over. Today, Mike Ybarra, the Director of Program Management for Xbox tweeted that the Xbox One and Xbox One S would gain support for playing Blu-ray disc recordable (BR-D) and Blu-ray disc recordable erasable (BD-RE) through an immediate update.

While standalone units are still priced fairly high, those with Blu-ray disc burners on their PCs might find the new feature on the Xbox One console a benefit. Although the media capabilities on the Xbox are robust, the ability to play burned media gives users one more option when it comes to enjoying media.

If you have yet to pick up a Xbox One or Xbox One S, you might want to consider one of the promotional bundles being offered this holiday season.
