BinaryData
So, I've noticed a specific change in the last few days I've been on Neowin. SkimWords. I'm not sure who the hell thought this was a brilliant idea, but because of you, I'll most likely cease using Neowin. For one, it's obnoxious as all hell. Two, I just got a lecture from out Network Security guy because our equipment flagged Neowin. He's checked the site out, and whitelisted it, but he did warn me that it won't last. Before people say "It's your fault you have some infection", Here's what I've noticed. 1. It's only on Neowin. 2. I tested it on my PC at home, my laptop, I even get it on my cellphone. 3. Fired up a VM, and went to Neowin. It's there. So, with that said, Bon Voyage my friends, this forced ads crap is enough. I'm tired of it, between the pop up ads, and the other crap, I'm simply tired of Neowin. My activity has decreased from everyday to 15 minutes a week, enough to toss BudMan or sc302 a PM. Steven P. Administrators Posted November 8, 2016 Administrators Share Posted November 8, 2016 Oh hey, yes I have been debugging the ads mate. I will disable it for members again Can you please confirm with me that the issue was to do with mixed content alert (http rather than https) or just Skimwords in general? I know ads suck, but we have to pay for all of this somehow lol, all it is is a referral which helps out Neowin if an item is bought through our link. BinaryData
As of right now, it seems they are gone. Most of the issues I have are with Skimwords, especially when I'm on my phone. Kept clicking on damn links when I was trying to scroll, lol. Hell, I wouldn't even mind if there was a $50 a year deal to just remove ads. $50 / year is cheap as hell. No worries, Steven. I've been cruising the net since 1999, ads are the thing I hate the most about the internet. I feel the same way about commercials, I'd pay more JUST to avoid commercials. Probably my bank being a case of specialness.

Unless you might have forgotten it.

Yes but other forums have them in posts and quotes. Most forums have this problem.

I've edited the post to remove it - It looks like it wasn't a skimlinks ad, just a link formatted in the same way as skimlinks do, for whatever reason. Good deal, Dave! Honestly, they weren't that bad, they were just irritating as all hell. Especially since the Mobile version of neowin really sucks. Maybe it's just my phone, but it makes me want to throw my phone, lol.
