Unable to disable receiving Insider Preview builds

Recommended Posts

I am currently a home user and on the Slow Ring.

I wish to stop receiving Insider Preview builds.

On the "Get Insider Preview builds" page, I get, "Your organisation manages Insider Preview builds via a telemetry Group Policy setting."

The "Fix me" button and "Stop Insider Preview builds" link are greyed out.

Any ideas?

Did you use one of those programs to stop the "spying?"

You need to make sure Settings > Privacy > Feedback & Diagnostics > Under "Diagnostic and usage data select "Full (Recommended)" from the drop-down. is enabled.

if you cannot enable the option, you need to use gpedit.msc to enable it: "Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Data Collection and Preview Builds". I had to enable all three settings. make sure Telemetry is at least on level "2 - Enhanced"

Doh, missed that part. Sounds like one of those tools to disable telemetry was used. Revert that and you should be able to leave the insider program.

I am not a business user, is what I meant.

If I meant Home Edition, I'd have written Home Edition or at least 'Home' with a capital :p

I run Pro.

Yeah I used one of these programs a long time ago to disable some telemetry, and the program didn't even do a decent job of restoring settings (when it was an option). Best bet is to use gpedit as described.

That tells me to look for this:

But I see this:

Changing "Toggle user control over Insider builds" to Enabled and restarting didn't change anything for me.

Not on this system. It's untouched.

Well, stuff like this just doesn't randomly happen out of thin air, something was changed on your system via gpedit or the registry.

I would recommend resetting your group policies to defaults: http://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/68549-local-group-policy-settings-reset-default-windows-10-a.html

If resetting the policies does not work, there has been a change made to the registry that needs to be fixed.

That worked :) Thanks

However, I can't stop the Insider builds as I'm currently on build 14931.1002, which is not a production build :(

Oh well.
