UK is nice.... have to love the weather... "Today, it will be foggy and moist. Tommorow, it will be foggy, and moist, with a chance of a light sprinkling later in the afternoon....."

The US has a much nicer Space Program... sorry UK :)

That's hardly a redeaming quality for the war mongering... but, hey, Britain's back us on this one...... hard to contrast two countries if they BOTH are war-minded....

What about Canada, eh? They haven't done anything distateful to the world recently. (If ever??!)

Clearly this is totally based on opinion. This is yet another thread to demostrate your predudice and ignorance. Both Countries have their positive points and negative points....Which is better is dependant on your point of view.

Yes but that's boring, everyone could say this is good and so's that. But it's more interesting to hear about peoples strange opinions.... you've gotta laugh. ;)

Actually, the UK has many thousands of distinct accents... Inner London has over 300 on its own, which is why, as a Brit, I always find it funny when people refer to my "British accent" (I am an Englishman living in Canada).

Let's see... the main differences between the UK and the US:

The UK has culture, history and a beautiful language.

The US has a pale imitation of culture, very little history, and a predilection for horribly mangling England's beautiful language.

I can walk down the street in the UK and not trip over homeless people, syringes and garbage. I also don't need to worry about being randomly shot.

Politicians in the UK are elected to office because capitalism has not degenerated to the point where political seats can be bought.

Whenever I am in the US I feel the oppression; it's palpable and heavy like a weight sitting on my back. The news has only one slant and no one has the slightest knowledge of the rest of the world. People walk around as though they have blinders on, content in the belief that they are the highest form of humanity the world has ever seen when in actuality the rest of the world has already seen such a society rise, have its hey-day and fall; a warning to future civilisations not to repeat its mistakes.

Britain may have made the US but if you really want to see successful attempts at nation-building by Britain, look at Canada and Australia... everything the USA could have been but isn't.

The US is a very big place and to make generalizations about its residents is ridiculous. Remember the US is composed of 50 states that are very different in culture, history, law, geography, accent, etc. For example, I am a Southerner who lives near Charleston, SC. I am as different from a New Yorker as someone from Europe would be... and I like it that way!

And I like my South Carolina Lowcountry accent! I've never driven a British car although a mechanic friend of mine says they are a pain to repair.

The entire rest of the world? Including all of Asia, which has a culture that goes back much further than the one in Europe? That I'm going to have to disagree with. I've also got to say that any sort of modern culture comes from America, not Europe, and a large majority of the best books written in the last century are from America.

Hmm I should probably explain Jaguar comment...

They used to be British owned and made. You remember those commercials with the japanese cars and the ball berring rolling over the seamless perfect grooves? Well those berrings fell inside the jags :p The company was on the road to oblivion with ****ty cars and a poor service rep. Until Ford bought em out and completely revamped everything. They are actually quite decent now...

Your ignorance shines through.

Yes the US has it's faults but so does every other country.

agreed...

i don't think that there are that many differences, mainly because the influence of the US is ever increasing...
