elfangor
Stuff usually comes out first in the US (like games and movies and crap) You don't seriously think that, do you? It may be true for movies and music that is American made (obviously) but it is not true for the latest electronics like cell phones. The US also doesn't get the best products from Japanese/Korean electronic companies, car makers, etc. Well, back to the question In the USA: bigger = better (e.g. Suburbans, egos, etc :) )
blixkin
that war mongering comment is funny considering england has probably been in every single country in this world at one point or another. and sometimes they didnt go in by peaceful means. as far as the racism/ethnic groups, thats what you get when you have a melting pot of people in one country. as far as the overweight thing, we are like that because we CAN... its an easy lifestyle here. and all those comments about americans being "fat, lazy, stupid, and not open minded" you are just as ignorant as we are. ######. nohoy
and all those comments about americans being "fat, lazy, stupid, and not open minded" you are just as ignorant as we are. ######. haha well i read this whole thing, and i know im off topic but he makes a very good point (not rahter elegantly though) lots of people here are just going off of preconceptions. i live in ohio (and im sure many will think of farms, but thats only if i drive far away) i hardly fit any of those stereotypes and not many people i know would :p so it would be nice if anyone who *thinks* they know something like that of *all* americans, just forgot it. oh yea, um one comment the weather being dependable :p that would be nice, it was around 20 some for a while then hit like 60 some for two days and then it fell down to 0 degrees (all fahrenheit ;) as it seems we will never switch over to the metric system, sadly)

Behold! My Pants
(1) you look better when tanned (2) the girls are much hotter in the states, specifically, the south. i can't speak for the north, b/c they have some ugly women. come to the south, and the average girl is so much hotter than average girls in other places (ie the north). oh, americans have discovered the secrects of orthodontistry. (that wasn't very nice, and i know i'm play on just sterotypes)
khaos34
I guess the US is really different in many places - especially here in Hawaii! :D From what i here from many people coming down here, and what I experienced when I satyed up in Cali and Oklahoma for a while, Hawaii's pretty different. Anyways, that goes to show that while you can compare/contrast the US/UK, you can make all these little comparisons here and there within the two, which makes applying borad/general statements about big countries err... something not to be taken seriously. Better to experience things yourself before passing judgement :D
supernova_00
I could go on for hours about the differences but just to be short I'll state a few differences or commonalities... Murder rates, are there any in your country...i'm sure there are and lets say the population of the U.K was the same as the U.S. how would they compare then? I know guns are illegal there but thats what great about our country...we have a lot more freedoms then U.K. Can't you get fined or jailed if you bash the queen? We can talk all the crap we want about bush or any other pres and not worry about prosecution except if we treaten him and the police or who ever really think we are going to do it. Another thing worrying about violence...I have never been worried about being mugged, shot, stabbed or any violence being inflicted upon me and I have lived in major cities in the U.S. and go to baltimore, md every weekend which has one of the highest murder rates in the country. Poverty...There are no bums in england, everyone is rich and has beautiful houses? I think not. Every country has its bums and poverty stricten people, yes the U.S. has a lot but compare the size and number of people in our country...if the population of U.K was same as U.S. would the U.K. have the same amount? I really don't won't to get into politics because it would take to long and I rather have debates in person then typing debates out...but one thing i will comment on is What is the purpose of the Kind and Queen? seems like Blair makes all the decisions in the country, is the Royal family there just to suck up the tax money? Racisim...Like someone else said, the U.S. is a huge melting pot or salad bowl (or whatever we call it nowadays) of people so you'd have to think there would be problems especially when people bitch about they should be treated as equals but then use the race card whenever they get in trouble but yet say they want to be treated equally (makes no sense to me but this is a major cause of problems in our country...act like your equal to us and then there wouldnt be problems) One example is if, a lets say Arab guy applies for a job that he knows he is not qualified for and he doesn't get the job we will say it's because he is Arab. If a black guy gets beat by the police for resisting arrest he says he got beat because he was black when he knows good and well it was because he was resisting arrest not because he was black. (Don't say what about rodney king because I know what happend there and yes that was wrong but oh well, every white person in our country is not accountable for a few racist people)...I'm not saying there aren't racist people in our country, I know there are but reasons like the above are what drive people to be racists. digitallaughter
We can own guns in the US....LOTS OF GUNS :D :D :D Thats about the main difference :p Also the comment about ppl getting shot at in the u.s., Thats not really an everyday occurence I've never been scared somone was gonna bust out theyre gat and cap me :p (I dont live in NY though)

leedogg
One of the big ones is sport interests. In England seems like Soccer (they think its football ;) ), Rugby, and Cricket are the popular ones (let me know if I forgot any) Whereas in the US the ultra popular are: Football (real football :p), Basketball, Baseball, and hockey Another is beer. Everybody knows the US has the greatests bestest beer in the world! ;) okok but we definitely have the cheapest!
sanctified Veteran Posted January 13, 2004 Veteran Share Posted January 13, 2004 I was thinking more modern, Abstract Expressionism, Pop Art, Minimalism. As far as music goes, Blues, Jazz, and Rock and Roll. The canon of writers moved into America as well (Hemingway, Faulkner, Steinbeck, Fitzgerald, etc). I think most of what is left of New York can attest to our architectural movement. I give you the point in blues and jazz, but rock? - The Beatles - PINK FLOYD!!!! the two most influential bands in rock ever, maybe you can add another name to the list but you cant deny their influence as for writers: Lord Acton Joseph Addison Jane Austen Francis Bacon Walter Bagehot Sir Max Beerbohm Arnold Bennett F.H. Bradley Anthony Burgess Samuel Butler Lord Byron Angela Carter Lord Chesterfield Agatha Christie Sir Winston Churchill William Cobbett William Congreve Cyril Connolly Lady Diana Cooper Noel Coward Benjamin Disraeli Sarah Ellis John Florio E.M. Forster John Galsworthy George Gissing Robert Graves Lord George Savile Halifax Thomas Hardy Jane Harrison William Hazlitt Anthony Hope Douglas Jerrold Pamela Hansford Johnson Ben Jonson D.H. Lawrence Caroline Lejeune John Locke Bathsua Makin Katherine Mansfield W. Somerset Maugham Lady Mary Wortley Montagu Dorothy Nevill John Osborne Dora Russell Elizabeth Russell William Shakespeare William Wycherley Edward Young  Another fine examples of the rest of europe: PATRICK SUSKIND!!!! Fedor Dostoievsky Friedrich Nietszche Jean Paul Sartre Albert Camus GOETHE!!!

supernova_00
I agree on the name football...they basically only use their feet to touch the ball the whole game while the U.S. football we use it a few times...only for kickoff, punt and field goals

Down South Sailing and other water sports are polular. Budwiser tastes like rats ****, carlsberg if far far superior. Who ever said that the US invented computers is wrong and we produced the first computer to crack the egnigma (sp?) code during ww2 (which we won :p). IMO Spain is the nicest place, women there are much better looking, weather is great, sceenery is amazing as long as you don't go to the resorts on the Costas. You guys can call soccer whatever you want... we wont mind :p However if we win the next world cup or soccer olympics or whatever the heck it is, we reserve the right to change the official name of the sport to SOCCER for as long as we hold the title... yeah go USA!
