CTLA
[GLOW=blue]Hi I'm thinking of starting a paypal acount and i was wondering if anyone has a paypal accout that can quote on it? Is it risking? does it charge you high rates to use? anything i need to know about it. Any input on this would be apreciated. Is their a contract that i may not be able to get out of if i don't need it anymore? mzkhadir
I use paypal for ebay transactions, it nice and easy but the rates cut into your profits. Take a look and decide carefully, if you accept creditcard transactions, they will charge you more.

CTLA
Yes If i wanna order something offline and pay it by using paypal
mzkhadir
There is a paypal creditcard, but I don't what you mean by offline. A website that accepts paypal or a store. If a store accepts paypal it will have a logo of paypal, after you do that it will take you to the login screen for paypal and then you can go through the trans there. I don't think there is a fee for purchasing with paypal, there are seller fees with premium accounts. PayPal charges Premier and Business accounts to receive payments. Personal accounts are free, but may not receive credit card payments. For questions I would say contact paypal. Samoa
Paypal is useful if you want to buy/sell on Ebay. (Y)
1Houston
I think PayPal is the safest way to go. It gives you a record of your transaction, emailed right to your inbox. My friend just told me lastnight that she paid $80 for some movies with PayPal, but never recieved her movies. PayPal paid her the money she lost. It's called "Buyer Protection." eddieturtle
I think most of those lawsuits are from a while back before they were bought out (at least i think they were... or maybe merged with someone... ehh.. i dont remember exactly).. Anyhow.. I havent had any trouble since 1999 when I created my PayPal account.. and I recommend it for just about anything.. especially eBay. They also have some kind of guarantee thing you can purchase now too. It costs a little extra and is done per transaction. Not sure exactly how it works. I assume if you get ripped off you get your money back...
poind
Paypal can have some issues here and there (e.g., if you have problems with a seller), but you can generally be relatively "safe" using them if necessary as a payment format here and there. What is most important to consider are what other protections you may have with any given transaction in which you participate. Ideal to use a credit card via Paypal for their additional protections -- otherwise consider seller reputation/record and so on. For personal use buying something from a seller that takes Paypal, you should have no additional fees, but will have to deal with complaints via Paypal, Better Business Bureau, whatever depending on if you're buying from an individual, business, etc. As long as you "trust" the seller, utilizing Paypal should be fine, generally speaking. Galley
I've had a PayPal business account for many, many years. True, the fees do cut into your eBay profits, but IMHO, your auctions will attract higher bids if you accept PayPal than if you don't, so it probably evens out in the end. xRKx
I've been using PayPal for years now, I've got a Business account too - like many people - and honestly, I've yet to have a single hitch with them. Hell, I transfer money out of my savings account and into my PayPal account so I can use my debit card far more often than I bother using either of my credit cards, too. I've sent and received large sums of cash through them without so much as a hitch - and, all in all, I've been quite happy with them.
Blaise Veteran Posted January 13, 2004 Veteran Share Posted January 13, 2004 Yeah I was also wary of it, so when I need to use it I just transfer some cash to my younger sister's account and use hers ;) She's never had a problem with it, though she has never given them a n actual bank account, just uses Visa with it. 2checkout seems to be the one I always need to use and the only one I actually gave my cc info to. mzkhadir
usually its a paypal problem, its the person on the other side you are dealing with and paypal usually can't do anything about that.
Cowpie
Paypal was great, till I sold my iMac to a guy in austrailia. Seems as if PayPal is not fond of international buyers. Had my money froozen for a good chunk of 2 weeks, with no help from any form of support. Luckly my dad was a lawyer, and got a guy to acutally file a suit against them, and magically poof, my money comes back to me. Very bad experiance, go with something like 2checkout or heck, get a merchant account, prices are commin way down on those.
