TrickyDickie
I shut down my PC one night a few months ago and left it plugged in as usual. The next day I tried to boot up, but got nothing. I have an Asus Maximus vi Gene mainboard. (Side note: As I am so damned lazy, I didn't bother to look too much into it back when it happened and I have been using my Surface 3 tablet since.) I opened the case to try the on-board power switch but still got nothing. A friend suggested that it may be the power supply , so I unplugged all hard drives (4 of them) except for the main one and took out the graphics card, but still got nothing. Then I noticed that although the Power and Reset buttons on the board are lit up, the BIOS code display is not - It is just...well, off! I can't remember if the BIOS reset button on the board lights up, but that is off as well anyway. Is the board screwed, or should I try other trouble-shooting stuff? jamieakers
It could still be the power supply if it isn't giving power correctly on all lines. My tips to try (in this order) Unplug EVERYTHING connected to the power supply other than the motherboard Try a BIOS reset using the button on the board Try powering it on without memory installed (getting desperate here) Try another power supply connected to another outlet If you're still having problems yes your SoL and it's new motherboard time
