Possible to image down to a lower size drive or sd card?

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I have a raspberry pi system that is setup that I need to transfer to a smaller SD card. Its current card is being wasted some because of all the free space. I wanted to clone it to another SD card that is half the size. Is this possible? If so what software or command line-fu can I used to accomplish this.

Clonezilla should be able to do that..

you sure clonezilla is not using dd which would be only able to clone on a same or bigger sized device?

cp -a /mnt/device/folder /mnt/device2

should do the job.

If you want to use a GUI, Acronis True Image from a boot image will do this.

I just dont know if your Pi device will boot to USB and load GRUB the same way - I assume it will.  (most ISO to USB loaders use GRUB)
