Japlabot
1 in 1000, that would make something like 40 active members."342 user(s) active in the past 15 minutes" Humm... I meant 10 in 40000 to make 400 active users
John Veteran Posted January 15, 2004 Veteran Share Posted January 15, 2004 really wouldnt make a difference to existing members, the only effect it might have is bringing new users attention to the tech side of the forum first that's the idea... promoting neowin not just as a "general forum" (which it has arguably become) but primarily as a computer support forum. creamhackered is right; when longhorn hits beta, neowin's member count will get a big boost. TruBD
I'm sure the technology side of the forums will be even more active once Longhorn B1 arrives just before summer  i agree. the tech part of the forums were more active when u joined 14 months back was because people were upgrading software and OSs. its been a while since XP came out (part of why neowin opened from what i know) and people are pretty familiar with the OS that less help is needed. once a new OS is. out, im sure the tech part of the site will bloom dramatically
Wannes
I love Neowin the way it is. I have been hanging around in the sport forum a lot and my ideas are appreciated so I am really proud for that. :) I have never seen Neowin.net 1 or 2 years ago, I have seen it since a couple weeks ago, but I can assure everyone here that I won't leave fast. The team is excellent and the members are even better. I have gotten to speak to BOOG on MSN and his is truly awesome, he is open for all kind of ideas. :)

rpm
I've been here since April 2002 and they way it's been going is making it a completely univerisal site which in my eyes is truly a good thing.

TheDogsBed
I'm sure that each individual could find a genuine reason why their chosen forum should be nearer the top. I'm only confused as to why anyone would think being near the top would make a jot of difference. I am struggling to believe for a second that, for example, Graphics & Web Design, would become more popular if it got pushed to the top. As for the theme of Neowin. I wasn't here in the good ol' days so I can comment on them. However, it's precisely because of the fact that Neowin has such a diverse range (as opposed to just technical) of subjects, that I visit daily. First step is always to look at the news, then scan my forum of choice, and then just flick through the others for points of interest. Neowin has a perfect and winning formula. Many forums claim they have a "community", but Neowin is one of the few who really can proclaim it as fact.
MxxCon
this forum has become a place when you can share not only your technical experience, but your politics, artistic, religious and social ideas sometimes "shotgun" aproach is not that great. trying to handle alot of different topics will defuse user base and folks who want more dedicated discussion will move elsewhere. yes, it won't be very obvious becuase there are will be other users to fill in those spots plus more. but if neowin's goal is exclusivly to be the biggest and most active, it won't nessarly mean it has the best content (which is what i think must be the most important goal of any msgboard). take a look at doom9 or hydrogen audio forums..amount of excellent indepth content is extreme. granted both of those forums have very specific direction that might attract slightly different user profile, however still, maybe "politics, artistic, religious and social ideas" should be far lower on neowin's list of things it's popular for. neowin has some excellent posts and users, but they are drowned in a flood of complete garbage(many who already posted in this thread is responsible for too) I'm sure the technology side of the forums will be even more active once Longhorn B1 arrives just before summer  yup, that will bring another influx of 14year old warez monkeys so you better get those "thread closed" buttons polished up :pinch:
