Samsung will reportedly kill the headphone jack in the Galaxy S8

It's almost Christmas, and iPhone fans that like to joke about Samsung copying Apple are well aware of that today, as a new report from SamMobile says that the Galaxy S8 will not feature a 3.5mm headphone jack. But while Apple is certainly among the most notable cases of headphone jack removals with the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus, Lenovo had already done it in the 5.2mm thin Moto Z.

According to the site, Samsung may also be ditching the physical home button, something that's been a staple of Samsung devices for years. The fingerprint sensor will reportedly be integrated into the display, which would be an impressive feat.

That display is going to be 2K, once again dispelling rumors of a 4K display - which seem to show up every year. There could be any number of reasons for going with 2K, such as the amount of strain that 8.3 million pixels puts on the GPU compared to 3.7 million, or that a fingerprint sensor would likely have to take up space between the pixels, and 4K might not leave enough room for that.

According to numerous rumors, the Galaxy S8 will be announced at Mobile World Congress this spring, and it will use a Snapdragon 835 chipset. It will likely feature other advanced features such as a non-exploding battery.
