Some people are reportedly experiencing problems downloading Windows 10 build 14986

Microsoft released Windows 10 Preview build 14986 for Insiders on the Fast ring a few hours ago. The update contains several new features, bug fixes, and improvements to Windows Hello, Edge, and web platform, among other things.

However, it appears that some users are experiencing problems downloading the Preview build on their Windows 10 machines.

Several users are reporting on various social media platforms as well as Microsoft forums that their download gets stuck on 0% for several hours and eventually results in an error with the code 80240031.

Microsoft forum moderator Jason has posted a thread on the company's forum, to request more information as to why the error is occurring, asking the following questions from users being affected by the issue:

  • Which language/country version are you using? (Example: EN-US for English/United States)
  • Which edition of Windows 10 do you have installed? Home/Pro/Enterprise
  • Is your machine x86 or x64?
  • If you restart your computer, does it display the same error again?

It is not yet known how widespread the issue is, but many people with varying configurations are experiencing the problem on multiple machines. If you're a Windows Insider being affected by the problem, it is advisable that you let Microsoft know by heading over to the forums, in order to aid the company's investigation.
