markwolfe Veteran Posted January 16, 2004 Veteran Share Posted January 16, 2004 i have to agree with Starman, linux needs to get hardware vendors to make the drivers available at the same time as the hardware is released It would be nice, but corporations will only do what they see profit in.... Sort of a catch-22: Company won't release drivers for Linux because it isn't mainstream and profitable. Linux has uphill battle becoming mainstream because hardware XXX has problems (no driver)
Starman
again we have this fight. starman, you dont like linux. dont use linux. there problem solved! That's the difference between you and me - you see it as a fight, I see it as a discussion. Take a Valium or something (or Ritalin). It's not a question about wanting to use Linux or not, sometimes you HAVE to. I installed Linux the last time because I was a part of the Dreamcast Linux group and I really wanted to move the project ahead which required installing Linux on a PC to build it all, but I couldn't because I couldn't get X out of my 9700. Yeah, I could have used the CLI, but that made things much more clumsy. Mike

Now pretty much everything comes out for the Mac, and Linux is still left behind. Mike
JadeWolf324
i do not see it as a fight but if u have to be defensive than you must, i just dont want another war like the last thread this happened in. I agree it wont go mainstream until 3rd party starts to invest some work into it, and its understandable that they would not want to invest their money is an free OS..what do the gain out of it? thats a good point yes, but if a majority stopped worrying about that, it may cause a domino effect.
